I can see a reason to block certain types of walkthroughs from YouTube. Someone uploading the entire walkthrough of the SP campaign from Crysis 2 could be accused of copyright theft. It's similar to uploading a recent movie to YouTube and I doubt many people would think that was unfair if the uploader was penalised. However somone uploading some gameplay from an MP match would probably not face action, in fact this would probably be encouraged.

I heard that Notch the Minecraft creator has already stated he will grant permission for anyone to upload content to YouTube. I expect if this bill comes to pass that other publishers will have provisos for letting players upload content.

It's total BS. If you don't want to watch a walkthrough or Let's Play, don't watch it. Let those who want to watch it, do so. Games are not movies, movies are not games.

If this goes ahead I will not be able to eventually watch or of course create my own Let's Plays and that pisses me off.

EXACTLY .. its a game, not a film. If someone watches a 'walk thru' they're not going to then think, "well i've seen it now, no need to buy it" . What a load of tosh, they're still going to buy and 'play' the game, they'll just know how to finish it. So i really don't see how this effects 'sales' witch is exactly the only thing any such legislation should be there to protect.

I really don't think these government people know what they are doing when it comes to computer stuffs. They just don't have a clue.

If anything, I wouldn't be surprised if the only person who benefits from such legislation is the people who 'get paid' to make it and enforce it, just a way of giving them selves work and getting the dollar for it.

watch a walkthrough is watching the players own "film"..... which is not ilegal at all if they upload it themselves.

it was created in real time on their machines...

it would be no different then the developers of the cameras and studios calling for copyright infringement on every film every made or produced.

what ever next i wonder?! maybe one day if i were to make a video of my car, and i put it on youtube i'll get a call from Audi claiming some kind of 'copyright' infringement for that as well. lol

If anything, I'd of thought a 'game walk thru' was in fact 'free advertisement' for them .

hell, did the government pee bodies even 'consult' game developers over this before putting it in to motion?
