List of files - easy way to spot deleted ones? Just read my post, lol
I recently went on holiday.
I took my camera and took lots of photos. They will be made into a slideshow for my friends. A girl on holiday got my camera and deleted some photos. THIS IS NOT ALLOWED. So the filenames work as follows: - the first photo is called IMG_1350.JPG - the second photo is called IMG_1351.JPG - the last photo is called IMG_2196.JPG There are also some videos on the same camera. The filenames for them are very similar to the photos, only change the IMG to MVI. The number used follows on from the previous photo. For example, if I took a photo, then two videos, then another photo, in that order; they would perhaps be titled: IMG_1401.JPG ; MVI_1402.AVI ; MVI_1403.AVI ; IMG_1404.JPG I hope that makes sense. There are also 9 mislabeled files because the camera was on the wrong setting, but they're easy to put into the correct place on the slideshow due to the 'Date Taken' label. Anyway, here's what I need: Is there a way to create a list of all of these photos, and then a way to automatically work out which are missing? For example, if there is no IMG or MVI with 1821 in the filename, this has been deleted. If so... how? Thanks - really appreciate any help. |

You could copy the files to PC and rename all of them to img*.* (in Total Commander, or even the command prompt). The pictures would keep their names and the videos would be changed from mvi_1403.avi to img_1403.avi. Then you could sort them by name and easily find the ones that are missing. Or you could just arrange them by time, in a Windows Explorer window, hopefully that would put them in a correct order.
Also, you could just use a file recovery tool (preferably ASAP) to recover the deleted photos. P.S. I guess that you already learned this the hard way, but anyway, never give your camera to a girl, they'll always find photos they don't like and delete them. There's no reasoning with them about that as even if they promise not to do so, 90% of the time they will do it anyway.

Wouldn't it be easier to just kill the girl and hide the body really well?

I find it grossly overused, but it kind of felt right this time...

Hmm well I used a tool called copy filenames to get them into Excel, but now don't know how to flag what numbers are missing.
Spreadsheet here: photos.xls I've renamed the videos from MVI to IMG, but left the filetype as .AVI, so they'd go alphabetically too. The 9 mislabelled ones are shoved at the bottom. Please help? |

Forgive me but why do you want to get the missing files names if you wouldn't be able to recover them back.
Honestly I never have been successful in recovering deleted files. And I used lots of programs. Also, may I ask you something. Why did she delete them, the photos was for her or she was just being a scumbag. And Tyrsonswood, this cracked me up

I didn't care so much about the filenames, but moreso the number of files deleted.
And yeah they were of her, so she deleted them because she "looked like she was on gear." |

Will a program like Active Undelete be able to recover the files?

Nothing will work, I tried tons of programs before. All of them claim to recovcer and not a single one deliver.
