9/11 - Ten Years Ago, Today
I remember exactly what I was doing ten years ago at this time. I'll never forget it as long as I live.
A few weeks prior to this, my step-father had passed away, after a couple of years battling cancer, on Aug. 17. My family had traveled from GA up to KY which was his home and where his remains were buried in the family church's cemetery. Having gone through this very emotional loss, I had settled down to my computer and was focusing my attention on wrapping up my first play through of "Max Payne." After having -- FINALLY -- getting to the finale of the game, I had gone to bed. My older son woke me up from a deep sleep the morning of 9/11 after the first Twin Tower had been hit. As we continued to watch the TV, the second tower was hit. By then we knew...as did the reat of the world...that this was no accident! The entire development of that day as two other planes crashed...one into the Pentagon and the other into a field in PA... will always remain vivid in my memory. On this Tenth Anniversary of this horrendous attack on my country, when over 3000 people lost their lives at the hands of those who hate what America stands for, I want to express my appreciation for those First Responders...police, fire fighters, paramedics, and all, who selflessly risked their own lives to aid those who had been wounded and killed. "We Will Never Forget!" |

Re: 9/11 - Ten Years Ago, Today
my first thought when i saw the images on tv, my sister was watching the news at the time; "why is she looking at a smoking chimney?"
on further inspection i understood the gravity of the situation..

I just had came to home and was lying on the sofa before doing my home work. My mom came to me and told to put the TV on. And what I saw was the second plane hitting the WTC 2. That image is deeply burned to my mind. |

Re: 9/11 - Ten Years Ago, Today
It's incredible that this was ten years ago. I was nine years old. Most things that happened in my life around that age seem like ancient history in my mind now, but I can still vividly remember coming in from school and seeing those pictures on the TV as I walked through the door.

Re: 9/11 - Ten Years Ago, Today
I've been largely avoiding to re-view video or the reporting on the day of the event, I think I'll wait another ten years for that. Whenever some media throws the imagery in my face I cringe. Better for me then to read about it and the thousands of stories from people that were there. Peoples own stories are always interesting.
I don't think it was too long after lunch here when reports came in of a probable private smaller airplane having hit one of the buildings. That didn't sound too far fetched so there was no initial shock to speak of, but as described earlier when the plume of smoke coming out of the building on TV it was clear that something much worse had happened. Then the curtain fell with the second hit and the next of the evening/night european time was a nightmare mixed with awe and confusion. Can't recall much of anything other than the feelings of those hours. |
