So I went to the optometrist today and turns out I will be getting glasses.

How many of you wear glasses? And if so do you like wearing glasses or not? I know BlueMak wears glasses.

Also never been to an eye doc.... Waste of money.

if your getting glasses and are still in saskatoon... stop by the store on broadway which is right beside the clan/celt/clover or i think it's now Clan on broadway...(shares the same building but the glasses store front is street facing where as the clans store i facing north)..

i don't know what the name of it is .. but they are pretty damn cheap in comparison to say the atrium, and they usually are willing to give you a good deal too.

For the most part I'm quite happy to wear glasses since I was about ten. They've physically protected my eyes a couple of times at least and are not too expensive nowadays. I've tried lenses and they give you freedom to wear regular sun glasses in the summer, but found them to be a hassle in the long run. I know another nearsighted(myopic) person who've done laser surgery and it worked out really well, but apart from the cost I'd rater keep the slight issue I have now over having a laser cut into my eye.

Recently I was starting to have issues with my glasses without realising it. My eyesight has been stable for so long I only went to check because of an annoying scratch on the old pair. It proved to be that my nearsightedness had lessened significantly and that the over correcting glasses started giving me eyestrain. Not the first thing you think of when you feel you're seeing great at long ranges. Now text far away is less sharp but my eyes much more relaxed. This happens to many with nearsightedness when entering mid life years.

One thing I can't be without when it comes to glasses is anti-reflective coating. Once you try it you can't go back. Today it doesn't have to cost much extra either like before. Also make sure the rims you pick are sturdy, especially if you're going to bet on a single pair for a few years. There's no guarantee you can even find fitting rims for your glasses if they break after just a year or two.

Yup, I'm near-sighted. However, computer screens are not a problem. so although I wear glasses constantly, I don't use them to use computers (which take up most of my day).

I've had glasses since i was about 10-12.... most due to an accident i suffered from a few kids bullying me (they say "playing").... resulting in an eye injury that almost left me blind. However as it healed, the scare tissue resulted in an uneven/balanced eye, resulting in a bit of warped view from that eye and the other eye trying to compensate resulting in further eye strain and quick deterioration. An after effect of which was a stigmatism as well. So classes it is for many years, a short attempt at wearing stigmatism compatible contacts for all of 2 days at the age of 16/17... and then glasses to present.

A year ago i had a full eye exam done for the first time in nearly 8 years, the results was very minor and continued degradation, but not bad otherwise. I was approved for Laser surgery and would jump at it if i could afford it AND the time i would be away from work (as one of the stipulations is NOT staring at a computer/tv screen and resting for days or doing anything that could cause eyestrain of any type....)

I wore my first pair of sunglasses after getting my new ones, as i ordered and got a slick deal on a set of prescription sun glasses and normal glasses. Tiss great....

I already picked out a pair at "EYES" on Idylwyld and I have to say I really like the pair I picked out. They're black and silver.

And mkk I don't think I specified an anti-reflective coating on mine, might be something I'll try a bit later. I too am near-sited as well. I just couldn't see the bottom line of text they had up.

doesn't hurt to take your prescription and just "check" out another place for shits and giggles.... even just to see a competing pair of glasses and it's price....

It's one thing I've learnt, is that many eye glass stores or places tend to gouge the buyer... and strangely... people don't even bother to research on it.

What i bought for $550 was going to cost close to $2000 at the atrium.... for example..... and that's after the atrium offered a "deal"... so to speak.

Glasses here. I'm supposed to wear them when I'm outside or watching TV, though I'm not too disciplined about that. I've picked a decent frame, so I don't have a problem with how they "sit" on my face, in either practical or aesthetic sense. A bit awkward for certain activities, though.

Yeah, my best friend said the guys at the atrium are crooks, so I'm not even going to consider going there. I will go check out the place you suggested though, just for fun. I got a normal looking pair of frames though, I don't like frames that look expensive. My little brother wore a pair of metallic blue Fubu frames that he got while he was in Botswana and I think he still wears them to this day. They're really nice, but they cost a pretty penny. Although it was my dad who paid for them.

I have astigmatism and am slightly near-sighted. I wore glasses once I reached junior high school and then up into my early adult years. At around 28 or so, I got some hard contact lenses and wore those for a few years.

When I went into business for myself doing construction work (remodeling/home improvement) I was getting dust under the contacts so much I quit wearing them and went back to my glasses.

But, about 12 years ago, I found I couldn't read things up close with my glasses on and had to take them off to read. Suddenly, I was seeing better without my glasses than with them.

Then, over the last few years, I noticed I needed my glasses when driving at night and to see addresses after dark for my pizza deliveries.

Over the past year, I started noticing that I was seeing "double" of the road signs. So, just three weeks ago, I went in and had my eyes tested and picked up two pair of new glasses. I use them now constantly when driving and even at home when at the computer.

BUT, I still have problems trying to read anything up close with them on and have to take them off for that. I refuse, so far, to have bi-focals!!!

Don't get bifocals..

even my father whom listened to countless people get pissed off at their bifocals or trifocals ... swore he'd never get them..

then he did.... and now.... well.. he's pissed off that he did even though it appeared to work just fine.

one thing being that he nearly killed himself walk down a flight of stairs... and it's hard to get used to... after almost 2 years... still can't get used to them. Frequently find him with no glasses on reading stuff because the bifocals just get to annoying.

Since I was about 8 or something, I wear glasses, or at least used to wear glasses. Myopia and astigmatism, quite high too. Very annoying and I blame it for many bad things in my life. For example for never going professionally into sports (I was good in basketball, tennis to name a couple), and for a few other things. Later on it was the main reason I wasn't accepted into the Hellenic Naval Academy and basically having bad eyesight was a huge obstacle for me. I hate it so much you wouldn't believe.

A couple of years ago I had laser eye surgery (not sure about what type exactly, but I voted for the only option in your poll) and...it was awesome. It took a few months to cut all the habits I had, like reaching out for my glasses when I wake up, or feel the need to try to rearrange my glasses on my face (while not wearing any), etc.

The only downside is that where in the past I could put something right down near my nose and able to read it, now if I place anything (normal size text) closer than say 15cm from my eyes, it gets very blurry up to impossible to read. Of course since I can now see properly I don't need to ever do that, but still I haven't completely used to it.

I don't know what the price for the surgery is now, but it was completely worth it. While I am too old and too out of shape for anything that I lost due to my bad eyesight, earn it back, I at least feel better without the need to have them or worry that if something happened to them I wouldn't be able to see much etc.

I hate glasses.



So, anyway, I hope you enjoy your new glasses and don't forget to clean them whenever they get dirty, even if it doesn't bother you.

I used to wear Glasses for reading as a kid (But as myself never did) as i hated them.... Partly due to my parents used to buy the cheap type that never looked right..

But over time my eyesight improved where the optician said try it out for a while without specs...

So many years on im fine ( at least i think so) but as i am getting closer to 40 quicker than i like its perhaps time to do a check up...

But thats me,And i am one where you need to take time to pick a frame and style that suits the face,And callandor imo you have made a good choice thats suits your facial structure....Very dignified kind of look.

I wear glasses ince I was born lol and to be honest i hate them. Contact lenses are a good option although they are uncomfortable
