Re: Unreal (But not surprising)
It's always a concern that independent garages pull this kind of scam, but when you see it at national chains it's very worrying, I carry out any work I can myself, especially small items like wiper blades and topping up fluids before any service/MOT tests where they can charge ridiculous amounts for sundries.

Re: Unreal (But not surprising)
I took my "new" PT Cruiser in for an oil change using a coupon from a local dealership. All I wanted was the oil change with the filter.
After a few moments, the shop manager came to the waiting room and told me that my transmission was leaking. I knew better than that because I had just had some other work done and nothing at all was mentioned about any fluid leaking. To make a long story short, someone had OVER filled the transmission to force a leak at the seal. Now, whether this shop had done it or not, I have to way of proving. But, once the fluid level reached the normal level, the leaking stopped. I had even bought some fluid to make sure it didn't all leak out and I have yet...after several months...even opened that bottle of fluid. |

Re: Unreal (But not surprising)
independant garages?
Canadian tire... Mr Lube... Walmart, target or whatever other HUGE big box store or Garage that have many brances across the nation if not world.... are known to specifically do this kind of crap all the time.. sure you get a few private or individual owners running their own shop screwing a few people... but i'd be more inclined to trust them over the jackasses that managed to work at those huge places.

Re: Unreal (But not surprising)
Actually this is not uncommon here in the uk... i have seen many stuff on wtchdog programs in the past, one of the worst are not just repair centers but sales also..
Yes car credit was a big culprit for selling "Top Quality" fully mot/Serviced cars to people who have issues with credit rating. Offering cars at High interest rates and many of thew cars independently tested were not fit to drive.they went bust several years ago... But on a personal note i used to use a garage for years which were run by one man only, which were great and trusted. He would quite easily fit Used but good quality parts if requested to make things cheaper. Until a few years ago he went into partnership with another company,so thinking id get the same service. I had my MOT on my passat i drive once there which were fine,Although i usually have my mot test elsewhere. Last year my drivers side headlight failed the test as the level were too low along with a gaiter on a ball joint needed to be replaced also.. So i went to the garage in question to get gaiter replaiced and the headlight adjusted (Knowing that the cogs to adjust them are broken) so i asked if the headlight is fine, the reply were yes (£15 to adjust) When i went to get th re-test done my headlight had failed the test and the current level is just the same as before...But managed to get it adjusted.. Not a real big deal but i have not used the garage ever since. |

Re: Unreal (But not surprising)
The best garage is the one of someone you know and trust it might be hard to find that person, but once you do you will be fine for a long time .. that's what I did with my car had lots of different people look at it before i finally found the right person who actually does the work properly, and now I only use his services.

Human douchebaggery is unsurpassed by anything apart from human goodness and human stupidity. Wait, jiffy lube? LOL, people should watch more Seinfeld episodes.

Re: Unreal (But not surprising)
Whenever I take my cars to get serviced and parts need changing, my mechanic (independant) always has the old parts on a bench to show me what's been changed.
