What is the best thing you feel you GAVE for Christmas this year?

Many years ago when my own 4 kids were young, we would buy circus tickets for the upcoming circus that would be in town in either January or February of the next year....just a month or two from Christmas.

It's been many, many years since we did that and, now that I have SEVEN grandkids, I'd been thinking it was time to go to the circus again as a family.

So, I started looking for tickets a few weeks ago. (They don't go on public sale in our area until Dec. 7.) I also was looking for some kind of discount offer to help keep the overall price down. I found what I was looking for just about a week and a half ago in the local "junk" mail that comes in our mailbox in the form of area coupons.

I ended up getting 17 tickets for all 4 of my kids and their spouses, my mom (82 years old) and also my ex-wife (as I felt she'd want to be there for the grandkids' first time at the circus as a family.)

Everyone of them is so excited about this they can't wait! But, the tickets are for the show in Feb. here in Atlanta, GA and will be the Ringling Bros/Barnum & Bailey Fully Charged Circus...which means it's both teams coming together for one huge circus show!

I feel it's one of the best gifts I've been able to give my family in a long, long time. It's something I feel is important for families to spend some time together as we are all so busy going this way and that way we just don't have that much time these days to do things together.

So, what do you feel is the best gift you were able to give this year?

Re: What is the best thing you feel you GAVE for Christmas this year?

We've mostly given the relative kids presents in recent years, but this year I happened to see the combined opportunity and need to gift my mum a new computer. I got a good deal on a Lenovo Thinkpad E520 workhorse laptop with unspectacular yet modern specs. I also liked its build quality and at least here in Sweden the Thinkpad series are still serviced by IBM, whose services I've only had stellar contacts with in the past. Thinkpad having been a office brand, the screen is matte and the viewing angles weren't too crappy for TN. It's got the cheapest "Pentium" branded i3 chip that still did movies very well when hooked up to a TV.

The kids got age-appropriate books, or in the case of a more activity oriented youngling a weather resistant ball. I try to find books or some similar material even to the youngest, hoping to inspire a tiny bit of their intellectual development. Which means no princessy Disney or Hello Kitty crap.

I don't have it but haven't been able to find it's owner...... even though I have cats maybe I should adopt this one too. Thinking about it.

Helped to set my 74-year-old grandma up with a SB Pentium PC (in a CM Silencio), broadband and all the peripherals. My (tech-illiterate) family provided the bulk of the cash, and I the know-how

She's upgrading from a manual typewriter.

Have fun! Several years ago I helped my (then) 68 year old mom get her first PC. I had to travel 500 miles one way to do that. Then, I spent hours upon hours using IM with her teaching her how to use it. Today, she's 82 years old and doing very well with the PC she has now. I guess she's been through about 5 in that time frame.

My gift: marriage saving advice.

Me: "Listen. I don't think she wants a basket full of scented soaps and body wash."
Them: "Why not? They smell great."
Me: "Shes allergic to the ingredients in them, remember?"
Them: "Well, what about this Ladies 5 in 1 Trim & Shape grooming kit?"
Me: "Whatever you think about giving your wife I want you to remember this, and then decide whether it's the right gift for her or not. K? Ready?
Them: "Oh.. ok. What's this great advice?"
Me: "Riddick isn't the only one that can kill you with a cup."
Them: "<gulp> Er.. uh.. how about a $200 gift card for the Body Blitz spa?"
Me: "Good start."

The Circus tickets I ordered arrived in the mail. So, it looks like we're all set for Feb. 16.
