I was talking with a cousin of mine and thought it was a good enough topic for a discussion.

How do you place your fingers on the mouse? Not about grip style, but where do you usually have the fingers only. For example, I have my index finger on top of the left mouse button, my middle finger on top of the right mouse button and the ring and little finger to the side. How about you?

This is on a rat 3 Mouse...

I usually have my Thumb for the Back & Forward keys.. My First Finger for the left Button. My middle finger doubles up for the right button and the Wheel button..

The last two fingers usually hang over the right side of the mouse.

i'd say that's about standard.

if i play a game that makes heavy use of the mousewheel... i used to before my hands got to large to do it.. have my middle finger on the mouse wheel with the ring finger on the right button and obviously the pinking for solid stability.

I try to keep my wrist at least a little elevated in order to prevent getting a sharp kink/angle to the rest of my arm.... less carpel tunnel issues. But that's hard to do with average/small mice..

I hold my mouse like MIG does except my thumb is a little higher on the mouse, kind of in the middle of the left side of the mouse just beneath the back and forward buttons.

Middle finger on the mouse wheel? :O You guys have some skills lol.

I'm a major MMORPG player and I just can't seem to be able to move my middle finger from the right mouse button to the mouse wheel, however, my index finger is sometimes used to hit all 3 top mouse buttons (wheel included!) and scroll!

My thumb is clenching below the mouse buttons 4 and 5 trailing on my high quality cloth mousepad with my pinky sort of closed against the mouse and trailing as well haha, I should get a picture let's see....



Maybe it's just because I use the Razer DeathAdder...

and yeah that picture was pretty hard to take I had to click pause while taking a picture of me clicking pause (to save image from MPC-HC open device)...and angle the camera away from me cause I'm sure this site doesn't approve of naked pictures.

sorry, pic is a shocker, i had to turn all the clever stuff off to take it

that's basically it for general browsing, although when i game i have a tendency to straighten up my wrist, which effectively turns the mouse around a quarter turn to the left. sounds a bit odd, is a bit odd, but i find it hard to get my big paw comfortable on a mouse tbh

Pretty much just like Craig has it. Thumb and Little Finger to move it around, Middle Finger to use the right button, Index Finger to use either the Left Button or Wheel. (My Ring Finger just seems to be in the way except for maybe helping move the mouse around.)

the title put a few thoughts into my head...

anyway... i just rest my whole palm on the mouse like everyone seems to be doing, then i work the left and right buttons with my middle and index finger

i took all the weights off my mouse last night, just for kicks
i usually like a weighty mouse, but this is actually quite good, i may persevere..

question: do you use forefinger or middle finger for scroll wheel while browsing ??

forefinger for me

I find the middle finger to be long and versatile enough for the job.
