I should quit Facebook but can't for losing contacts, it won't stop mailing me.

Since about new year Facebook has begun a new email scheme seemingly related to this idea of "close friends" and won't stop mailing me about activities claiming I have selected these close friends for notification. Anyone had the same problem lately?

The thing is I've unchecked all notifications in the regular settings, and in the "close friends" section (which is not on the regular config page) I have check that there a) aren't any fiends market as close friends, and b) that no notifications from this empty list should be sent.

And naturally, their "report a broken feature" section in the help is broken. They don't need to be reminded about what doesn't work. That's classy enough for wall street.

facebook is so prone to scams so just be careful that sounds like someone is soon gonna claim to be a close friend and start asking for your personal info..

yeah facebook recently "changed" or modified my settings to where i didn't want ANY mail at all ever.... and then suddenly i was getting spammed for reasons i can't comprehend and couldn't figure out how to disable even though everything i could find showed emails had been turned off.

than as bizarrely as it had started..... it just quit (i think)...

On the main homepage, on the left you will have a Close Friends list, you might have to click 'More'. Click it, and it should look the same but at the top of the feed it says Close Friends. To the right of this is a notifications drop down, click that and select Off see if that helps.

Same thing happening here. Thought I had it all turned off, then all of sudden I'm getting a bunch of notifications. My problem is that Facebook emails F'UP Outlook. I can receive email from Facebook, but God help me if I open them as Outlook takes a big ol dump.

I added people because NHL superstars and madden superstars game that it I have 168 friends for nhl superstars and madden superstars 86 hehe.

I've looked at all the options and event tested adding "friends" to the "close friends" group and then away from them again, but that didn't help either. I'll try setting up a gmail filter against it for now.

Yeah personally I can't stand Facebook but I don't want to get rid of it simply for the fact that what if someone really needs to contact me whether that be for a wedding, funeral or something serious of that nature. With old friends that you don't see anymore it is a great tool but at the same time comes with a heap of garbage.

facebook would be fine provided it gave the options to simply ignore most game type or stupid user created applications.

and a all sweeping "I don't want any of your damn email" option.

I personally like however clicking the x on ads that show up and selecting "i find this offensive" resulting in almost no ads showing up on my facebook at all.
