Good Work Out Schedule?

My friends Dex, JD, and Will have been coming over to work out and Dex has us on a workout schedule where we focus on one part of the body per day for 5 days.

Monday: Chest
Tuesday: Arms, abs
Wednesday: Shoulders
Thursday: Back
Friday: Legs

And so for a day like chest he has me bench and do 10 reps of 115, then 125, then 4 to 6 reps of 155 for 3 sets. Then I do the 3 reps again with incline. Then we do 3 sets of dumbell benches with 35s, and then 3 sets of flys with the same stuff.

Only problem is every week I'm getting sore, is this a good thing to keep consistantly getting sore? Cause I had weight training and we worked out chest 3 days a week and I never got sore after like the first week.

you need to work out hard warming up and down exercises then rest, alternate days gives the body muscles time to heal after tearing........ of course with a a good diet.

I know your sposed to give your muscles time to rest after healing, a minimum of 36 hours. But with this week gap I keep getting sore. Is that supposed to happen?

System Specs

yeah that's a silly routine
it's more common to combine a few of the muscle groups one day, the remaining groups the next, and then rest a day. you won't be nearly so sore.

In the past I've tried every exercise regime known to man! Different things work for different people but the one I found most successful was to train chest, shoulders and triceps together followed by legs, back and biceps on alternate days. If you are using heavy weights my advice would be to have at least 2 days rest between each session. Also, as Zardon said, diet is as important as exercise.

Yeah I can't do the diet thing. My mom refuses to do any special shopping or cooking or buying for me. And since we only shop at the 99 cents store and costco, both of which need to be driven too, I'm stuck.

Try to convince her that the foods you need such as chicken, turkey, eggs, fruit etc. are actually very inexpensive.

If you want something to help your soreness try drinking a protein shake after working out. Protien helps mucles rebuild faster. Buy you a 5lb. container of whey protien and mix you up a shake after your workout. If you want them to taste a little better throw in a scoop of peanut butter or a tablespoon of hersheys milk chocolate or a banana. If you cannot get the whey protien shakes then just make sure you take in some by eating meats or anything else high in it.

Like the others here have said you need to tune your workout routine. I usually go for a day of rest in between each workout day. Your off time is just as important as your workout time. Try to keep your workouts under an hour or hour and a half. More than that and you are waisting your time. Kinetics routine he recommended is a very good one. Combine muscle groups together. Eat as healthy as you can anyways and for a good tip take a multivitamin everyday.
