Pissed AMD vs INTEL

The time has come, I'm going to go back to my P4 3.0HT chip and hang this FX-51 on the wall. It's done nothing but cause me problems since the day I got it.

Back to INTEL For my gaming rig, however this Athlon 64 3200+ is very stable and will remain in my server box untill XP 64bit comes out officialy.

Thumbs Up!

probably a good choice for other reasons too.- we will see a LOT more software/games taking advantage of ht in the next couple of years than we will 64 bit.
imo, we will see very little 64 bit software/ games for at least a year. & what does 64 bit windows get you? winxp is ht enabled & everything happens so fast now that any improvement is going to be miniscule at best.

For me, its all about Intel. I specificly chose the Xeon class for my new server reguardless of the price.
Dual 3.06 HT enabled Pentium 4 Xeon CPU's will make a very nice file/web server and general encoding rig!

Ugh Intel...

I don't really see any reason to hold onto the FX since you could probably get enough money from selling it to buy yourself a P4E next month.

I need to upgrade...badly...after two years my machine is slowing down...I have to turn features off in Halo to get it to run 30 fps! ARGH!

At least when I play AvP2 or Max Payne 2 I get perfectly fluid play with everything as far as she'll go...but she needs a 2.6 Ghz P4 HThreader overclocked to 3.2! Oh, and a Radeon 9800 XT...maybe...unless Nvidia gets much faster.

Maybe if prices go down for the 9800 Pro I'll start with that...the XT is basically just an overclock...and a pro could be found for much cheaper....

I dunno. Back to the point, I wish Intel would squirt out the Prescott, the 700 dollar FX-51 is kicking their 600 dollar 3.2 EE's ass...kinda.

Um, no dude it's not your computer.. Halo just sucks monkey balls for FPS. Yeah nice being able to play games with that can intinalize newer shaders and not in FFE...Frames per Eon.

The FX-51 isn't really kicking the EE's ass really, and for the money it's pretty steep..might as well get a true Opteron.

Not likely, since the FX socket 940 boards are few and far between. The Asus-SK8N is currently the ONLY single socket 940 board out.
The SK8V'ia' board is not available anywhere yet.

Point of fact, FX-51, oc'ed with water cooling. Unstable at 210x10fsb Verus 200x11(stock) with vultage increase.

The FX-51 so far, isn't impressing me so much. It's not so overclockability and insane price, ick. To ebay it goes. I am just going to get a P4EE. Since that thing is a friggen beast in games.

Hyperthreading is also becomming almost a nessessary feature. AMD really needs to get in gear and make a HyperThreading of their own. Not force us all to 64bit instead. HT > 64bit in the long run.

Sharkims you seem to be the only one to think so much of HT. I've never really used a P4, but the countless articles I've read on it can't be wrong, can they? I mean Windows itself is even slower with it enabled according to most of them Don't get me wrong I think its a great thing to have, but I also think its useless today until the OS and some apps out there start taking advantage.

I think it works well in some video editing and rendering apps, but generally at this moment in time its not doing a lot in everyday use.

You mean like, HL2 or Doom3? Aquamark or Photoshop? I will admit it's not fully into the 'loop' yet, but recently there have been a lot of companies working to include it into their every day applications. I could post a little article about how HT is usfull for me, I like to encode while playing games. I actualy can with HT. In every day real life activities, it does recude CPU load by about 50%

well hopefully amd never dies. the funny thing about the whole amd/intel hate thing is if amd somehow(never happen) replaced intel as the big gorilla on the block most people would be switching to "amd sucks, amd sucks.." within 2-3 years. we(people) are funny about the underdog. that is a good thing though.

Err, wrong, 32 HT will be long dead 64 is definately more future-ready. However, and theres ALWAYS a however, 64 bit HT is the true way to go. Gotta get em both together, they're both important!!!
