Bittorrent, how useful is it??

I've just tried using Bittorrent for the first time last night with great success. The file I downloaded was "NO WAREZ." The program works perfectly and plays well. I had to leave the computer turned on to download 1.4GB of data but it was more stable and reliable than Kazaa or eMule.

What's your opinion of this program? Also, do you know of any good sites or programs that keep an updated list of current Bittorrent files and servers?? Sometimes, I'll connect and sometimes I won't.

I personaly like bit torrent. I think the idea is genious in the world of file swapping. I run wild with file swapping in spite of the RIAA as I think many people do.

I like Bittorrent, I JUST started to use it-- But I wouldn't talk about downloading warez dudes. It's against the forum rules. Just a freindly reminder...

I think it is fine to talk about technology like bittorrent though. I think it's pretty amazing too.

The technology behind BitTorrent is amazing.

As a result, I've installed traffic shapping on my ADSL router at home which makes running things like BitTorrent and other P2P stuff play nicely when you're playing an online game for example.

Traffic shapping reduces the overall throughput of download/uploads but makes everything smoother. So a single file download is slightly slower but multiple streams work very very much better

Bittorrent is really good for when something intially comes out. You need lots of seeds though. Too many people close their torrent windows when they finished. That's the only drawback to it.

That's very true. As for me, I keep my Bittorrent upload connection on until I turn off my computer. I like to give back for what I got received. Now, only if more people did that!

i have problems with it, i dont know if the files i try to get are too obsure or what, but the seeds always fail, not enough torrents out yet, or something.. but i love the idea, and it works well for mainstream stuff..

I have downloaded files at 320 to 360 KB/sec using bit torrent.. It's a very interesting technology.. I just like trying to figure out how to make it work. A fast upload speed helps, as well as setting up your firewall properly, not exactly sure how to do that though.

i got cox btw BEST ISP

umm its a program that uses ur isp's newsgroup as a server and u go and download

groups like ali.binaries.images.games or something like that and each tome someon

posts a game or movie or something on that group u go and dl it but there are parts

lets say doom 2 for example it has cd1 50 parts and cd2 50 parts than u gotta

go and use smartpart to check if all files are there than u extract 1 of cd1 and cd2 and

than u use a program like daemon tools to use the image or .cue .iso or what ever

into a cd so u can install..
