My sleeping cycles are totally F**'d too -

After 3 back surgeries and all kinds of pain meds/ muscle relaxers- Sometimes I'm awake for 2 days at a time-- then only sleep for 4 or 5 hours, then up again for 2 days....

Really sux- but I don't waste much time sleeping.

Ya shift work can be brutal, I did 3 years of backshift and by the end of it I was just like a slice of burnt toast. The place I was living at the time had 2 Rottie's that would go nuts everytime someone came into the yard, which was about every 30 minutes or so throughout the day, so the only sleep I was getting was in between flights at the airport where I was working

right after Highschool I worked for 2 years from 11PM to 7:30AM-

-then for about a year 2PM to 11PM

-then I had a job for a year starting at 1AM though 2:30AM (always changing) , then working until 9AM or sometimes until 11AM-- again different every day.

My sleeping has been screwed up ever since too.

I have gotten 2-3 hours of sleep a night since 1998, I have been diagnosed with an accute insomniac condition that is not alleviated by medication.

I have twice been forced into a drug induced come for a week at a time to force my body to rest. Sleeping pills have the odd effect of keeping me awake longer than if I do not take them.

I've spent $14,000 in insurance money trying to find a way to sleep, to no avail.

Insomnia is my curse in life.

Just wondering... why is sleep so important?, I mean;
if one have become a nice 99 years of age, he/she/it has slept 33* of them, what a waste
*presuming an 8 hour sleep on avg.
j/k
Think everyone has it in to some extend, I learned myself to stop worrying, and counting sheep does work!!!, if I only could find some that would shut up after I fell asleep...

My Dad knows a guy that never sleeps- ever-

He says he goes to bed, closes his eyes, and lies there all night, but doesn't ever lose consciousness. He says he cannot ever remember in his life actually going to sleep. I don't really believe it, but this guy swears he is telling the truth. Maybe parts of his brain are sleeping, enough for him not to go insane, and some parts are still awake. My dad doesn't know him anymore, so I can't ask him any questions. I'm sure there are scientists all over the world that would love to study someone like that.

I'm really not an 'insomniac' because I can usually sleep about anywhere, anytime. I just don't need much sleep. I get by on about 5 hours a day. Once in awhile, I'll nap when I get home from work.

I've had my sleepless nights too. That is, I just don't go off to where dreams are and can still feel the sheets over me and hear the cat snoring next to my pillow when it happens. I find either a sort of white background noise like that of a ceiling fan or box fan helps. Old, soft classical music and reading thick, uninteresting books have also successfully tricked me into falling asleep (happens all the time in my English Literature class ... gah it's boring!)
I don't know, I cherish my sleep and dreams a lot. The only deal is is that when you get older you can go on less and less sleep. My mom gets probably four-five hours a night and my dad probably just as little and he works evenings with overtime usually.

digerati will become famous soon enough

2-3 hours throughout the week, then shoot for 12 on the weekends to try and compensate.

My sleep patterns vary. Sometimes I get 2-3 hours, sometimes 6-7, and sometimes 8-9..... it's that weird 4-5 range that i never seem to fall under

I sleep about an hour or two during the afternoon, then get anywhere from 1-3 hours in the early morning. I suppose I should try and get to a more regular schedule at some point.

I sleep 5-6 hours a day when I am ok but can go to insomnia mode with 2 hour rest a day for 2-3 weeks but can also go to hibernation mode with 12- 14 hours sleep for a couple of weeks.
Insomnia mode sucks but my flatmate is a vampire (sleep all day wake up at 11 PM) so at least I have someone to talk too.

I never worked (I am a student which is a good excuse for everything). But I think my sleep paterns are f*cked coz I live in Glasgow (no sun short days) and take too many drugs.
