I install carpet sometimes, but, all you really need is a piece of paper. Just cut the paper exactly as you see the pieces in the animation. Then try to duplicate the realignment. You'll come up short.
![]() EDIT: And, BTW, I was a student tutor of geometry in H.S.

i know the missing block one - my friend explained it to me at skool. we got it pinned up on the wall. something to do with the hypotenuse cant remember. look at the red on the first image (no hole one) the highest red block that meets with the orange block takes up less space than on the one on the hole. something like that and others makes that hole - exactly one block

actually, i think i was one of the first to approach my teacher with one of these examples.... i've always come across some kind of odd problem with how the hell this crap works...... no only did it baffle him....but he worked on it for days on end.... (he is a very Highly educated math teacher/profess.....) he couldn't figure it out...... but, that's just one example...i found more crap that just doesn't.... seem to work correctly....... it's like physics itself have sorta screwed up....

The Trig I did the last 10 years would make most peoples heads spin.... I know mine did.... Most of the time you had to do like 6 or 7 problems just to get the info you needed to solve your main question. Tool & Die is all about trig...... I did cheat once and a while and hop on the CAD system and draw my problem up and let the CAD program give me the answer.... But glad those days are over.....toughest math I see at my current job is figuring out subnet masks for the network....

......some of the latest stuff in math took nearly 12 problem solveings steps to get even a slight answer.....

like Saint K was alluding to, i think, the reason that both these anomalies appear is because of the slope of the angles. it may appear that in both examples shown that the pieces all fit nice and snugly, but by doing very simple math you can see that the each angled piece has a different slope, meaning they wouldn't fit naturally, with those slopes being 2/5 and 3/8. it is an opitcal illusion.
