From his last post to you it sounds like he has done what he can not to inconvenience you too much - sounds like he's straight up...

But, it was an auction like you said...

i don't think they would clean up well enough as they do come with a black thermal compound on them and is pretty gooey stuff.now that the heat would wrap around them soldered points etc.

can anybody give me a link to a mem test.

a) that is good but free(even a trial)

b)capable of either being able to print out the results or be able to use in windows maybe so at least i can grab a screenshot of the results.

as for the one i have works as a boot up floppy(dos) i can't remember if it allows a save file.

You could try Docmem at www.simmtester.com

Or the Microsoft memory tester at http://oca.microsoft.com/en/mtinst.exe

The simmtester disc is bootable and I don't remember if you can save the result to a file for later printing

The file from microsoft is supposed to make a bootable CD - haven't tried it yet though. Downloaded it at the end of last month and just haven't gotten to it yet. Hope these can help.

thanks.

i already have microsofts test utill.

also just found the other day memtest 3.0 downloaded that due to it says it prints out or saves to file the required info i will need. but just be interesting to see how it does that as it boots from a floppy.

but the last email he sent me says he is posting back the faulty stick today so perhaps receive to test out tomorrow.

memtest 3.0 works pretty good from a floppy.....I used to see it in reviews all the time....but not much any more since the memory market has progressed so much.

I've been trying to remember why I had the SimmTester software - because a technician at Crucial told me that's what they recommended as a software diagnostic - and it does offer to save as a file or print from within the program.

I'd really try to get a better image quality of those screen shots.

But, I'm glad to know things are looking up on your end.

Won't the PrintScreen, or ALT-PrintScreen work? You press either of those once the app shows the results. I believe ALT-PrintScreen dumps the screen to the printer. I don't spend that much time anymore in DOS, but, that's what I seem to recall.

In the Windows test, just press the PrintScreen key and then Paste the clipboard image into your graphics program.

i will give that a try. but didn't know that would work as it were in boot mode(dos) and the command wouldn't of worked.

{edit} tried the alt-print screen, didn't work. might be my printer is usb,as usb drivers load in windows im unable to do so.

Yes, USB devices are kind of iffy from DOS mode.

I can see that the Microsoft test is completing successfully. Can't save the results to a file, then boot to Windows and print it? The screen shot with the printout ought to be enough...

Memory looking good to me, glad you were able to test successfully.

i have, recieved a reply from him.he has accepted my outcome of the results.

with a little advice to try to up the mem voltage to 2.6v instead of 2.5v to see if that changes things a little.if it works he will be keeping it.

bit happier now as i didn't want to refund any cash that he might of broke himself not wanting the extra 512mb and i may of been stuck with a faulty stick and out of pocket.
