Any Professional Networkers, please Help
Hi everyone, I have to do a project for College where I must research and interview some people in the field that Iam going into (iam taking: Network & internet support specialist) So I was hoping that some of you Networkers that are out there working in the field might help me out by awnsering the questions below:
1. How did you get into this job/work? 2. What qualifications are expected in an entry-level position? 3. What do you lookfor when you are hiring an entry-level? 4. Are there any related jobs in this field where the qualifications might fit? 5. Is there more training or experience I should gain? if yes, what? 6. What certifications, equipment, clothing, transportaiont, etc.. is needed? 7. What would a typical work day for someone in this occupation be like? 8. What are the drawbacks of this occupation? 9. What is the salary range? 10. What current opportunities for advancment are in this field? 11. Is there anything else I should know? Last edited by Verios; Dec 5, 2003 at 12:38 AM. |

Ok here we go....
1: I got involved because it took up so much of my time that I decided to get paid for it, or divorced ![]() 2: A+ is the bare minimum but MCSE,Cisco or other certs are a big plus 3: A combination of desire and hardware skills, since the networking experience will only come later !! 4: Help Desk, Desktop support 5: Get your Computer Science degree 6: A+ is the bare minimum but MCSE,Cisco or other certs are a big plus 7: 8: Stress, cut throat, contract work 9: Varies greatly according to region 10: Focus on security and I think there will always be work |

I hope this help I had to quit early I will try to get to the other 2 questions latter
1. I was going to back to college taking Computer Network Technician (2 yr) and was hired by a local firm before I graduated. 2. Good trouble shooting skills, good knowledge of computer hardware and OS 3. A well prepared resume, good communication skills and a good team player. 4. Here a few I can think of Computer Information Systems, System Adminstrator, PC Repair 5. The best training you can have is on the job training (real world enviroment) If you can volunteer to help out in the lab at school that well give you some creditable experience to put on your resume. 6. This depends on where you get hired, and what position or job you get. 7. A typical day can include hardware issues, software probs, virus removals, updateing anti virrus software. and lots of technical support to clients and staff. 8. I cant see any drawbacks in this field other then the wide range of salary depending what part of the county you live in. But thats just me I love what i do! 9. The salary range depends on the area you live in and the size of the firm. |
