BROADBAND - HERE I COME!!!
I have finally been able to coax a BT engineer round to my house today... and what d'ya know! 55.4dB - well within the 60dB limit for RADSL. Not bad, when you consider that my house is 6.09km from the local exchange, and the limit is supposedly 6km!!! oh - soooo good - I have been looking forward to this day for months. Now to decide on my ISP of choice... (rank order): 1. Eclipse 2. Zen 3. Pipex 4. Plusnet 5. Nildram 6. AOL (backup - I would scream if I had to go with them for bb!) w00t! Probably won't get it till the new year though, as I am visiting family until the 3rd or 4th of Jan. Probably order it just after christmas, so that the modem is sitting at home waiting for me. w00t! I'm soooo happy now ![]() I know it may only be 512kbps, but it's a hell of alot better than 56k! Finally... I will be able to play online games in the comfort of my own home on my own rig. Finally... I will be able to download movies in under a day! |

I have been using AOL 56k for over 2 years now.
I find them to be very reliable. There was only one problem, for a few days back in february, when they were having problems with their servers, they got that sorted in 2/3 days. I don't lose my connection. Plus - AOL offer the best 56k package in the UK. There is no 2 hour cut-off and you have an unlimited amount of usage (not limited to 150 hours like the other 56k ISPs) If anyone had to have 56k... I would recommend AOL. Thing is - I have heard some very bad things about AOL broadband, so I want to stay away from that. As I said in my list, my fav is Eclipse. Although - the others (2 through 5) are good too. |

Congrats Tasty! Glad to see you don't have Tiscali on your list, I've had nothing but high ping issues lately, along with a few thousand others!

Yeah - my list (excluding AOL) - is compiled of the best RADSL ISPs for pings (the rank order). That is how I based my rank. I'm a true gamer
. Thing is though - my mum is being a bit annoying about it all... even though she wants bb - it's as if she doesn't want to get it just to spite me - it's very odd. Ah well... If she won't pay... I will.... and I won't let her use it! lol

you have given me some ideas on some ip's there. will be seeing which give a better deal (value for money) and cheaper than my current from btopenworld now that i am out of contract with them. although i would say about 93% of the time they are reliable. currently at £29.99 for 512k when i have seen this article from thr reg just looks as though there looking after newcomers more than current subscribers. |
