Big Grin Rogers has warned me~ It's time to move on!

Quote:
We would like to advise you that there has been excessive usage on your Rogers Hi-Speed Internet account which is in violation of our end user agreement with you and in particular, your agreement not to use the service in a way that creates an unusually large burden on our network.

Rogers has a responsibility to ensure that all of its customers experience a high quality of service and performance when using Rogers Hi-Speed Internet. Your usage consumes a disproportionate share of our network's resources which has a negative impact on network performance. In fact, you fall within the category of less than 1% of our residential customers whose usage exceeds that of the average customer by well over 2000%.

Please be advised that it is important that your account's usage returns to reasonable levels. Unfortunately, unless your usage pattern significantly changes starting in the next two days, we will have no choice but to suspend your Internet account for a period of seven days.

The following activities may be increasing your usage: Engaging in peer-to-peer file sharing; Running servers; or Installing shareware that compromises your computer's security. In addition to addressing the above activities, here are some guidelines that may assist you with managing your usage of our Internet service: Make all users of your account aware of the content of this e-mail and consider the extent of their usage; Install virus protection software and regularly scan your PC(s) to ensure that you have downloaded the most recent versions of such software; and Familiarize yourself with all provisions of our agreement with you (particularly prohibited uses of Rogers Hi-Speed Internet). A copy of the End User Agreement can be found at http://www.rogershelp.com/help/conte...d/rh_policies/ If you would like more information on servers, peer to peer applications, and other important information on managing your Rogers Hi-Speed Internet connection, please review the information below.

Thank you for your attention.
Rogers Hi-Speed Internet
Ok, they say I have "unlimited bandwidth", but I can't download too much over a short period of time. Oh well..I was going to switch over to different ISP, but I guess this is another reason to switch besides there inconsistent speeds and operational time.

It's probably pointless, but call 'em up and argue the "unlimited bandwidth" statement in their agreement and ask them what part of "unlimited bandwidth" did you not understand. See what they have to say about that.

Huh? Adelphia fuckin rocks dude are you serious.

They upgraded their lines and now we get higher download/upload speeds AND they just RECENTLY signed with Giganews (newsgroups) and I just got into newsgroups when I heard this and its amazing, anything I want right there at the highest speed, but the only problem is a 5GB per month cap but ONLY on newsgroups - not for the whole internet. But it aint stoppin me from d/ling everything possible

eurotrip in 20 minutes, so FAST

My Adelphia has some of the oldest phone lines and the servers they use are pieces of crap... worse then where Drake and Fallang reside.... Theirs is very crappy too but mines worse I am satisfied at the moment cuz phone lines cant handle DSL and the 56k runs @ 16k lol.... We have a lot of old people here who dont use internet so i get a good best effort at times

I got one of those letters from Optimum Online, but not for downloading, but uploading

mild uploading mind you, like... a gig or so in a week(Bittorents). But a stern yelling and they left me alone. They thought I had Kazaa running(yeah right, wouldnt touch it with a 6ft stick).

Strictly use my troublesome bittorrents. My computer if left unchecked goes into a standby mode it can never get out of(its not even enabled!)

lol

Well over a 2 week period I downloaded 15 GB worth. But you, see it's Bit Torrent and I left the upload rate unlimited and I'm guessing that's what really kills their performance.

Bit Torrent is great

It's great, but like with all things, great in moderation I wonder if there is a way to schedule Bit Torrents.. Ideas anyone?

nothing that i know of. There are 3rd party BT installers that give you more customization options.

BT++ A very pretty GUI
http://btplusplus.sourceforge.net/

Experimental Client
http://ei.kefro.st/projects/btclient/

There are countless others. Give them a whirl(i use the Experimental Client)
