Default Post WTFOT- I W A N T T O R A N T ! ! !

Yuppers, I've decided that rather than frustrate myself silly during valuable nappy time I would just post up a lengthy free-form rant concerning me and the state of my life in general. It's my price for working here, every now and again I get to cut loose and babble my head off about whatever the hell is pestering the old grey matter at the moment...and it being the weekend my wife works after my son's second week of kindergarten and my third parent/teacher conference about his behavoir and with my 2 year old daughter sick (along with me and the wife, the boy is over it after bringing it home from school. I love the kids exposures to new germ pools, it makes me feel like we're giving the family's immunity system a work-out. ) and being stuck in the house with the both of them all weekend I gotta admit that I'm going just a tad more frazzled than normal. Add to that the refreshing 5 hours of sleep I've been getting for the last 2 weeks adjusting everyone to the schedule and it makes for a sort of weird brainstate sitting in my chair putting the daughter to bed.

Did I ever mention "The Chair" before? It's a navy blue, over-sized Lazyboy rocker/recliner with all the bells & whistles that my Mom got for us when my daughter was born. When I say "all the bells & whistles", I mean it! The sucker has got heated seats with two different temp settings, built in massager with 10 different control zones with 9 presets & programability, and a refrigerator built into the left armrest. (Which no longer works since I pulled the peltier unit off it for future modding fun. We never used it anyway. ) I spend about 2-3 hours a day in that chair on a good day! On a bad day it can be anywhere up to 8-10. (I wish to the Gods I was kidding. Fortunately there hasn't been a lot of those!) It's the chair I sit in when I give my daughter a bottle and put her down for nappy/bed, and there are days when I swear I think I'm going to go nuts in it! Do you know how annoying it can be to sit somewhere quietly and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for a couple of hours in the never ending quest to put a baby to sleep who doesn't want to go to sleep?!? Or how aggravating it is not to get aggravated? Man, you get some strange thoughts in your head just to kill the boredom and keep from falling asleep. (Do NOT fall asleep with yourself at the mercy of a conscious baby! I learned the hard way, and I really don't want to talk about it. )

Today's chair thoughts were about the weird international flavor of my systems lately. I got a video card from Ireland, a CPU coming in from the Netherlands, and I'm talking to a guy in Russia about a motherboard. For some reason I really like the idea that the parts have been all over the world. I have no idea why, I just do. I've been amazed lately at how much the world has shrunk in my lifetime, and how much I've taken it for granted. Being pretty much trapped as a house-hubby the last couple of years has meant not a whole lot of time for me old mates; but we'd been all drifting apart for a while do to marriages, lives, distance, etc. We still all click when we get together, but it's getting tougher to get together as often as we'd like.

Yet I keep in touch with my buds in Ireland, Scotland, England, Japan, Africa, and Gods only knows where else without any problems or bother. Any time I have a free couple of minutes I can jump into a roomful of friendly faces and kill some time bullshltting.

And it helps, a LOT! It lets me remember there's more to me than just father/mom-thing to my kids and good husband to my wife. I've got nothing against those aspects of myself, but I think everyone needs a bit of themselves just for themselves...an arena where they're their own individual rather than having their actions reflect on their roles/positions to others. (If that doesn't make sense, sorry. Did I mention I'm babbling/ranting here?) Dig is my outlet for that, and he's not a seperate personality but rather an aspect of my whole. I like "throwing on my aspect and raising up my attribute", (go read your Zelazny! ), it's my way to get away from my life-stresses once in a while. Ok, maybe more than "once in a while"...but I type 90+wpm and read a skotch faster, so it really doesn't take me that long to "hit the boards". Usually about 10-20 minutes at a setting.

So I just felt like I had to share my chair reflections so I could get them out of my head and concentrate on a bit of relaxing for an hour or so. I just put the GF3 back in Bubbles and am looking forward to a good GTA3 session. Have a happy Sunday all, thanks for reading the praddle.

BTW-I added the poll as an afterthought, it seemed like a good question.

Take my word for it: it will all be soo worthwhile in just a few years. I've been tempted to post how similar our lives are a few times. My kids are 10 & 12 now, but I remember well! My 'escape' was climbing in the 4x4 (w/the kids) & going for a drive in the Mtns I live in. It gave me what I needed & 90% of the time the kids took that nap.

Kids & I have a much better relationship than I ever had w/my parents & I think it is much better than most parents/kids have. Kind of a shame it's not quite the same w/their mother (we're divorced now) but I'm glad I have the relationship I do w/them.

You & I both had our own lives b4 marriage/kids & we both started that later in life. I can relate to the boredom/frustration thing, but I took it as a challenge & I did have a LOT of good times on my own. I'm sure you did too.

School & germ pools: that won't end. Both of mine have the 'back to school sneezes & sniffles' too.

Enjoy what ya got Dig. Very few men get to experience what you & I have & I'm glad I've had the opportunity to spend soo much time w/my kids! There are those fleeting moments that I wish I was doing something else, but I realize one day I will be ... and so will they.

Have a good weekend, what's left of it.
