I just wanted to start a thread regarding the horrific events of September 11th New York.
I have a few websites on the internet, but Driverheaven is a special place for me, and the people on this board are just some of the best people ive met online .... lets all come together in this thread and express some feelings and maybe in some special way send some love to those in New York and all those who have lost someone. On the day of the attack I was in work, working on some scans in photoshop for some car company, nothing exciting, just another day in Ireland, when I heard the news breaking from people in the building at first I thought it was some kind of mistake, could this really be happening? surely not. Then when the second plane hit, I think it was finally hitting home that this wasnt just an accident. ive never felt such a sense of bewilderment, shock and the horrific feeling as I stood with my work friends watching it on TV. All work had stopped. nothing seemed important anymore, just the images on television, then the shock seeing them collapse, and the people dying. the footage of the guy in the street actually filming the plane hitting the tower. people running, blood everywhere. what would it have been like to be there, with someone you knew in the building?. I still cant fathom it. I have alot of friends in the states, from when I lived in california and alot of people from the east coast, boston area. I love america, and the amercian people, much more so than european people. I have more in common with them. I like the county of USA and what it stands for. lets all send a little love to the families of the lost people. Life is short. Make the best of it because you dont know when your time will come. Love to you all. Allan. |

Yes very tragic event. Iwas on my way to media play to buy a cd.I couldnt believe it.first I felt sorrow for all the lives lost. then Me being an army vet I knew after the second plane this was not so random event. I felt the need to blow who ever did it up. Nothing can justify what they did.So I feel that the people responsible and all people involved should be tortured slowly. Not giving the the satisfaction of dying. for atl east 2 years . then shoot them. Might sound harsh but I believe let the punishment fit the crime.

I actually recently had become unemployed so I was sleeping when it happened. My roommate about kicked down my door to wake me up. I thought it was all a dream. Anyway I'm with David on this one, those responsible should all die VERY slowly and painfully. We should flood the whole Middle East with pigs...yes the BACON JIHAD. But not regular pigs, I'm talking about those pigs from Hannibal. We'll just send them into all the caves. Heh those bastards will get all freaked out and shoot em with their AK47s, which will only piss off the pigs even more

I was at home getting ready to go to work. At the time I was on a forum getting information on a soundcard I was considering buying. My wife was about 80 miles away at my mothers helping her with fall cleanup of her house and of course the kids were at school. As soon as I disconnected I got the call from my wife who was sobbing and said I should turn on the tv. To my shock both towers were smoking and she quickly filled me in on what had happened. I can't describe how I felt at that moment. One part felt lonely as my family was all away, one part felt anger and shock that anyone could do such a thing, another part felt a fear that I had only experienced in a battlezone during D. Storm. As we were speaking all kinds of news was coming in of car bombs, Camp David being hit, and various other reports which turned out to be false. We decided that I would go and get the kids and spend the rest of the day with them. On my way to the school the report came in that the Pentagon had been hit. I felt as if I was in a dream. I picked up the kids and spent the rest of the day with them doing family stuff. To the people who lost loved ones on that tragic day, god be with you and comfort you for your loss.

I was at the office when the news broke. I couldn't get anything over the internet (jammed) so we dragged a TV set out of a closet and rigged a clothes hangar antenna and most of my company huddled around this TV in our cafeteria for most of the day. I remember emailing most of my friends in NYC asking for a reply and calling my Dad in LA to ask him to stay away from downtown for the day. In spite of the anger I felt I was also very scared for the innocents who would no doubt pay the price during our quest for revenge. I thought about my best friend from Iraq and his family who were in the process of getting out of that place and whether they would pay for our revenge and I hoped that wouldn't happen. I though about how ignorant americans would blame their olive-skinned neighbors and the children in NYC's suburbs who would come home to one less parent.
The thing I thought about most and will carry with me forever is that image of the second plane striking. It's, without question, the most horrific thing I've seen - not for the number of lives lost - the nuclear attacks on Japan will hopefully never be exceeded in that regard - but for the personal aspect...to have been on that plane or in those offices and to have been able to understand, if even for only a few seconds, what was happening...I have to shake that thought off whenever it comes. As it turned out I don't know any of the 2800 or so who died that day. I know many of their neighbors and business partners and a few people who live within blocks of the WTC, but the loss hasn't been as personal for me in the days that have passed since. Still, I can only guess that, even for one such as myself who didn't lose anyone, the feeling is very much like the loss of a loved one and it hurts again whenever I think about it. Mize

Zardon asked me to post something in this thread. I think, as a staffmember, and as someone that people recognize --and maybe even look up to?-- it's my responsibility to say something worthwhile every once in a while. I hope I can do that.
Thomas Paine once said of the American Revolutionary War that "these are the times that try men's souls." I think that, years from now, we will look back on 9-11 and the events following it, and remark to our children that those were the times that tried men's souls. I can't help but think of the families of the deceased that have been crying, probably every night, since the attacks. But their's are not the only souls being tried. As we sit here today --many of us old enough to have been drafted-- there are troops in dusty Afghanistan. Our Special Forces are in charge of Afghan government security. There are troops all over the world, away from their families, busting their asses to secure our way of life. I'll bet that the interim government in Afghanistan is stressed beyond belief. Between dodging assassination attempts and trying to rebuild their devastated country, leaders like Hamid Karzai and Hedayat Amin-Arsala probably aren't always bright-eyed and optimistic. People of Middle-Eastern descent don't have it easy, either. These are people that realize that identifying themselves as Muslims will probably make them not only the butt of jokes, but the target of a lot of hatred. Ignorance still exists in this world. Muslims are not to blame, but you can't explain that to a bigot or racist. I just hope that, as everyone grieves, they realize that others --not just Americans-- are grieving too. If you're religious, then I should hope you'd offer up a little prayer. Not only for the families of the people killed in the World Trade Centers, but for the troops abroad, the Afghans fighting to restore their country, the Muslims that are unfairly blamed, and for your fellow man. If you're not religious, I hope you can keep those people in mind. Every single one of us was affected by 9-11. I hope that, through all the trying of men's souls, we can all take tolerance, respect, and sympathy and make it a permanent part of our lives. |

I cannot help that I feel this way. I do not believe in murder but I have no problem with Capital Punishment! I also feel very much for the losses of the survivors of these unjust murders.

I penned this earlier this evening while reflecting on what took place that day.
__________________________________________________ ________________ 9/11 – Some Thoughts of a Year Ago by Lewis N. Turner 9/11 – just symbols on the page. But since events of a year ago, They often incite rage. Rage, because of evil, Rage, because of death, Rage, because destruction Occurred with every breath. We watched the events with wonder, Wonder, if this could really be Something really happening, Or just some make believe. But soon we found our disbelief Confirmed by sights and sounds That never ever happened On America’s hallowed grounds. We saw grown up men crying, Unable to hold back tears, And in each face that flashed onscreen, We saw overwhelming fears. 9/11 – symbols still today. Symbols of our sorrow And of our yesterday. But from that death and sadness And from destruction’s sorrow, We look to inner strength and faith To reach out to tomorrow. We cannot bring back those we’ve lost Nor can we rewind the clock But we can keep moving forward Day by day while taking stock. We have so much that’s precious We have so much that’s dear We have so much to live for In this and every year. Our liberty and freedom Are priceless beyond compare And have become the envy Of nations everywhere. So, let us rise up in this TODAY A year from 9/11 And work and pray that freedom Will be known by everyone. |

I was wandering around that morning getting ready for another dreary day at work when all-too-early my phone began ringing. Something struck me as odd immediately about this particular phone call - it was before 8AM, and nobody calls me that early.
It was my mother on the phone, who frantically asked me if my father-in-law was flying that day. I woke my wife and double checked that he was in fact safe on the ground here in Houston, and was in training that day to earn his Captain's wings. I then asked my mother why. In a choked voice, all she could manage was "Those bastards have attacked the World Trade Center. Turn on CNN." She hung up. I immediately remembered the bombing incident from 8 years earlier as I turned the TV on. I was unprepared for what I saw. The top of one of the two World Trade Center towers was on fire, a Boeing 757 having been slammed into the face of the tower near the top. I watched, stunned, as the flames licked up the side of the building, smoke billowing out, and people chose to take the quicker path by jumping from the building. I thought there was no way this could get any worse. I was wrong. I watched as the second plane hit the tower and disintegrated into a massive fireball, instantly killing hundreds of people. Real life invaded, and I left for work, where I immediately set up one of the TV's so we could follow the news. We learned shortly that a third plane had struck The Pentagon, killing hundreds there as well. My co-workers and I were mesmerised, everything silent except the newscast. We watched, horrified, as the first tower fell, followed later by the second, and learned that yet another airplane had been hijacked and had crashed in rural Pennsylvania. Most of us spent the day trying to get through to friends and loved ones whose lives took them into or near the Trade Center or the Pentagon, and the majority of those phone calls were successful eventually, with nobody having lost anyone close. Then the first one came through where a person WAS there and their status currently unknown. Then another. For some, a pervasive sadness invaded their lives that day. For others, a slow, quiet rage as images of people dancing and cheering in the streets were aired. Many a person that day would have traded everything for "the button". Luckily for them, cooler heads were in charge of that particular button. We learned quickly who was responsible, and for many, action could not be taken soon enough. Our country, once divided by every petty issue imaginable had instantly become united. The military, who once had to beg and plead for enough new recruits to keep operational, now experienced its largest surge of patriotism in 60 years. Television events asked the country to reach into their wallets and offer up a spare dollar or two to assist the families who lost lives or even entire branches of their family in this tragedy, to find that America has deep pockets to help her own. Friends of America will find that our friendship with them endures as they join us to exterminate these vermin, these heathens, these enemies of both State and Church. For even within the Bible is it written that "If he should spill the blood of man, by the hand of man shall his blood be spilt." Enemies of America will find a nation prepared to cry havoc, and let loose the dogs of war. Our nation, our people have a resolve that will endure so long as the enemies of freedom draw breath. We have united in this cause and we will remain faithful to the same. Those who speak against vengeance do so by the grace of the freedoms we enjoy in this country and our belief that all are free to believe as they choose. But do not doubt that the lives lost shall be rightfully and justly avenged. Their heroism cannot be measured adequately by any means available to us today. Instead, we honor our dead by cherishing our memories of them, and by bringing to justice those who took them from us. Do not doubt for a second that as they are located that every effort will be made to allow them to surrender peacefully and willingly and submit themselves for judgement. However, understand when those who refuse are justly terminated with extreme prejudice. We are a nation at war, only this time it's not for a line in the sand, a piece of property. This time, the very values and beliefs that make America the country she is are at stake, and we will defend them at all costs. Our fallen heroes deserve nothing less. For those who lost someone in this tragedy, our hearts, hopes, and prayers be with you every day, but today in particular as your loss is more prevalent in your thoughts. Take solace in the fact that they are looked upon as heroes, and that all of us will remember them with you. |

9/11 I got up at about 1/4 to 8am and went to calculus. I sat through the class bored, then when I got out I went back to my dorm. I came in and all these people were crowded around the TV in the lounge, I looked up at the screen and saw the towers on fire. I asked what had happened and no one said anything, then I asked someone I knew and they said we had been attacked.
I was kind of unaffected at first, I simply went to my room and sat there. I went to play a video game to get my mind off of it, then I realized that I HAD to do something helpful. I opened up my bible and my Science and Health seeking some comfort. I read different passages and after only 1/2 and hour felt better about everything that was happeneing. A little later I called to see if my friend Kari was ok. After about three or four tries got through to her roomate at Pratt and was reassured that she was fine. I called her boyfriend, my best friend Tom and told him she was fine. That was the last phone call that I made that went through that day. Rutgers is in Jersey so a lot of people were very distraught around me, but I tried to remain calm. I knew that a lot of my friends had family that worked in NYC, so I talked to them and asked them how they were, luckily everyone I knew was fine. In fact my roomate's uncle worked in the north tower and by chance he had missed his bus that morning! A couple of people in my dorm were crying in the lounge, I didn't ask why. Thats my 9/11 experience. "God is Love"-John 4:8 Please people let's not tarnish the memories of so many who died trying to preserve life by taking it away from others.

You need to read and try to understand the whole Scripture...not just bits and pieces. Here's another passage: "Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. 12:19 Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord." 12:20 Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head." 12:21 Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. 13:1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. 13:2 Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same, 13:4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn't bear the sword in vain; for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. 13:5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience' sake." In the teaching of the whole scripture, if evildoers are bent on defying the laws of civilization, God had given to government the authority to 'wield the sword' of wrath and judgment. That means even to the point of taking the life of the evildoers....which is expressed by the mention of the 'sword'. No taking of life is to be considered a joy or pleasure. But not all taking of life is murder. Dyre Straits |

All i can do is never forget that day 11/9/2001 and do all my efforts teach the borning babies, tomorrow's adults, what happened then.
Freedom is too face the reality and cry against all, but all atempts to the human rights. My respect to the families of all in the world victims of no respect for human lifes. Finaly, as Javafox wrote: "I hope that, through all the trying of men's souls, we can all take tolerance, respect, and sympathy and make it a permanent part of our lives." |

Dyre,
I don't think anyone ever has God-given authority to do anything. We believe we are fighting evil the same way the Taliban and Al Queda believe they are fighting evil. We seem them as an enemy to our way of life, that makes them evil in our eyes. Since when was the US the only country God loved? If we feel the need to take the burdens of God on our shoulders we will inevitably fail. Jesus's example was not one of vengance and hatred, it was love and forgiveness above all. What right do we have to judge these people? They have commited a horrible act against our nation and our way life, but what right do we have to charge in and declare our sevles holy because we have the biggest guns? Remember God is the "still small voice", not the raging storm or the fire or the earthquake. If we choose to retaliate with similar brutality we serve not the Lord, but vengance. Vengance is a human quality, fleeting and flawed. When it is said that the Lord is a vengeful God do you think the real intention is that God will seek vengence against evil? No evil in and of itself is self-destructive and self-punishing. Always remember God is eternal and perfect. Perhaps humanity is not, but shouldn't we try to follow the commandments? Remember it says that "Thou shalt not kill" not "Thou shalt not commit murder unless murder has been commited against you by someone you didn't like in the first place" the intention of the commandments applies to all Governments have no place justifying murder with God.

First of all, respect, consideration and concerns for all religious believes and thoughts, cause im my behavior I try to do this, I may not agree with your opinion but I am able and prepared to give my life for you to have the right and the freedom to express your opinion. I think God and the Evil are the same entity, aren't you made similar as God? So the scriptures said that. What happened in the 11/9/2001, in a religious view, it was the manifestation of the God's evil face, cause that look at the future with hoppe, teaching the future mankind of this reality, good and bad exists, and do all my efforts to give to them the instruments to make the good option and resists to the bad one.
My tribute to all the families victims of that dark side on 11/9/2001 having present in my mind that everiday, somewhere in the world, and right now, is having a World Trade Center collapse hited by a plane that doesn't respect himself or herself as a MAN. |
