Plasma TV's

Well its , slow hard saveing when your not working but,' its my thing at the moment,' leaning asking. now this is GOOD to known and its helped me,' Very few Plasma tv manufacturers actually make their own plasma tv.
Most use a system called rebadging. Basically they buy from a Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), claim to have a secret extra special feature and stick a new sticker on it , and bill you thousands extra for the sticker.
THE MAJOR MANUFACTURERS.

NEC - Nec is a OEM manufacturer, The company's plan is to supply industrial unit under the NEC name and supply home units thru rebadges such as Marantz and RCA, Sony and Runco

Panasonic - Makes the complete units, Supplies Toshiba, JVC, Fujitsu and more

Pioneer Plasma - Makes all of there own equipment and sells OEM to Sharp Note: The 5030 and 4030 HD multtimedia box is made by Sharp Note : Pioneer Electronics now owns NEC

Fujitsu Plasma - Only makes their own 42 inch in partnership with Hitachi . 50 and 61 inch Fujitsu Plasmas are Panasonic and NEC but the 42 inch are their own. Note Hitachi plasma screens are identical to Fujitsu and cost thousands less, 55 Inch Fujitsu is same as Hitachi

Sony Plasma tv - Makes their own boards and chips but uses Fujitsu/ Hitachi plasma screen glass for 42 inch, 50 inch is NEC, 42inch EDTV is NEC

Hitachi - Owns 50% of plasma screen factory with Fujitsu. Makes own internal components

Philips - Uses Fujitsu/ Hitachi glass screen and most internal components as well. However, Philips makes its own bezel with built in speakers.

LG / Zenith - Make their own glass in Korea.

THE SECONDARY MANUFACTURERS.

RCA/ Thompson - Partners with NEC to OEM its product. Just a NEC with a new bezel.

Toshiba - OEM from Panasonic.

Sharp - OEM product through Pioneer for 50" and 42 though they may make some internal component changes .

Runco - OEM 50" from Pioneer and 42" from NEC,

Marantz - OEM 42" plasma monitor from NEC.

Viewsonic - OEM 50" plasma screen from Pioneer ( old 502 ).

Sampo - 42v3 is old Fujitsu, 42v6 is Samsung Plasma.

Now Plasma TV's Come in to types, Standerd Definition Display & High Definition Plasma Display
If You watch non digital local tv, non digital cable tv,' Running a plasma on local cable is like running a Ferrari on unleaded you will need a digital tv satellite cable, if you have already payed for a nice tuner theres no need to have two.
If you pick up your tv cannels in digital or digital cable or satellite you dont need the tuner
satellite or digital cable boxes are tunners i dont known just how good they are?
If you are going to use DVD, Suround sound speaker's, soundsysterm, VHS tape you are going to need a nice tuner to hook it all up

most plasma displays do not have a built in tuner some of the High Definition Plasma Display have built-in tuner
With VHS tapes you will be disappointed when playing on a plasma screen

Nice post Greenhat - very informative. The Japanese manufacturers have been masters of this ever since the beginning days of the VHS VCR (JVC, Matsushita {Panasonic}, and RCA cooperated) to start it all.
