oh i am definatly going fuel injection on the rebuild. doing a little reading and searching, and ive found a motor that does EXACTLY what i want.
![]() meet the Ram Jet ZZ502 Crate Engine, straight from chevy. Specifications SDPC Part Number: 12499121 Manufacturer: GM Performance Parts Horsepower : 510 @ 5500 RPM Torque : 550 @ 4500 RPM Compression Ratio : 9.6:1 Block : Gen VI Cast Iron, 4.468" Bore Crankshaft : Forged Steel, 4.000" Heads, Chamber Size : Aluminum Oval Port, 110cc Valves (I/E) : 2.250" / 1.880" Intake Manifold : Ram Jet Port Fuel Injection i figured id be spending close to 10K to have a motor custom built to put out 500 HP/TQ, but this sucker puts out 510/550 and is under 9K. going in a standard 15% drive train power loss, this will give me about 433.5 RWHP and 467.5RWTQ that gives me an estimated times of... 1/8th mile 6.971 1/4 mile 10.978 @ 119.08MPH 0-60MPH in 2.6 seconds. i know this is going to take a bit more clreance then my current hood allows, so ive already got that planned out too. im going to cut the big bulge out of my hood, add how ever much extra hight i need and reglass the bulge back in. im also going to cut a hole in the middle of the bulge, kinda like the how the current Z06's are for the ramjet. ill see if i can sketch something out with MS paint.

steel and aluminium both have different heat ranges. meaning that they expand and contract at different temperatures. how would that affect the long term affect of the engine? |

well, i'm not saying that the power isn't great. from what you've posted, it's insanely awesome
. but i'm just saying that because the block and the heads are made of different materials, how will that affect the engine's longevity? will the heads/block crack due to the metals expanding and contracting at different times?

like i said, wouldnt worry about it. GM designed and tested this sucker, so im sure they know what there doing.
now, forgive my MS paint bastardised photo, but i think you get some idea of what im going for with the hood. and yes, that will be like a small cowl also. whenever this thing gets done, it will be cleaned up much more, and angled so it fits the shape and contours of the hood.

ya it is.
when the time comes, ill have to seriously sit down and consider my options. see if the carbd 502 vs ramjet 502 is worth the price diffrence. see what a built 427 that puts out the same power would cost me from a local builder, so on and so forth. hell, maybe just pick up a crate LS2 and beef it up a bit. my planned budget for the complete rebulid is going to be some where around 40-45K. shell be one hell of a beast when its all done.

if you don't require EFI, go with a 454...they're dirt cheap

that motor is much cheaper, but it puts my RWHP below my target goal of 400RWHP minimum.

Seems like you should put that money into the rest of the car first.. that thing needs a lot of work doesn't it?

it most certainly does.
its all just future planning for the day it eventually happens. im going with a brand new frame, all high end suspension, tranny, motor, etc. when im done, its basicly going to be a 69 vette body sitting on an almost exotic car.

im actually starting to look for real work. ive been saveing cash from my part time for the last several years now. what ive got saved up is a start, but no where near enough to even think about starting a frame off.
