It's "pick on Sandok" day.. We used to have them as kids... maybe that's why I am so demented sometimes.

Sanfok you should open that thread back up and re-name it "Corvettes/shoes thread"
That would confuse some people.

heh. theres a guy that ive seen running around here with a beautifully restored early/mid 60 pontiac with a very healthy engine in it.
downside being, he put hydraulics on it and i saw him bounceing it all over in the gas station parking lot. the only time i could ever see hydraulics being useful is when my car sits so damn low, i need that extra 5 inches of boost to get over the speedbumps and up driveways.

so in class today, a guy walks in late to class, opens up his laptop, and attempts to start taking notes. because he is late, the first line he writes is
"comission stock options are killed based"

so ummm, i sorted through a box of carburetors a couple of nights ago, and found a suitable replacemnt for the one on the vette right now. turns out that one on the vette is from a 73 pickup, and god only knows where the correct one is now.
soooo, looks like ill be rebuilding the one i found, which is for a 68 vette, 327/350hp. hopefully i get a little performance boost seeing as its going on a 350/300hp motor. now i just need some time, patiance, an exploded diagram, and a "how to" and ill be all set.

oh the amount of money i need just for the motor alone with blow through a major chunk of change. figure 10k-ish. i dont know a damn thing about motors, so i sure as hell wouldnt build a real hi performance one on my first go. im looking at 500bhp/400rwhp as my target goal.

nope, the whole ride is going to be re-done. basicly the only thing thats staying the same is most of the body, and about 80% of the interior.
i want to go with the 500hp motor, 6spd manual trans, complete suspension overhaul (top of the line components), 255mm of rubber (10 inches) up from my current 225 (8.8 inches) 3 inch fender flares, stock speedometer/tach recalibrated for the new setup. stock map holder, mostly stock guage cluster (cut out for cd player) C6 corvette seats, ~2000 watt sound system. then theres everything else that would need to be replaced/upgraded along the way. new rear bumpers, re-chromeing the front bumper and trim pieces, custom hood, custom exhaust, so on and so forth. to pull off the whole package, im figureing conservativly, ill be priceing it out to around 45-50,000 dollars to pull it off. besides, before i can even paint it, i need to do a bunch of other body work to it. the fibreglass has a bunch of spiderweb cracks in it. something thats pretty common for older vettes. plus theres a bunch of old repair work thats starting to show through that needs to be redone. once thats done, if i pay some one to paint the car i can expect anywhere between 5-10K just for the paint job. so ya, i try to do everything cheap on the car right now and not invest any serious money into it for the time being.

i was just saying do it expensive the first time you come across a repair/upgrade to have it done right the first time
.......much like in computers

ah yes yes. which is exactly why im doing it cheap right now. most everything im replaceing/repairing right now will be yanked off when i rebuild, so it just becomes a waist of cash.

how would it be a waste of cash if you spend money on repairs, and then later on buy a new complete unit?
your gas tank for example. you said you had repaired it, and only a few days later you found a new tank for not much more. that is what i'm talking about. |
