rolleyes WOW, 10yr Old Girl Arrested For Bringing Scissors To School

Stupidest crap I've ever heard:

"A 10-year-old girl was placed in handcuffs and taken to a police station because she took a pair of scissors to her elementary school.

School district officials said the fourth-grade student did not threaten anyone with the 8-inch shears, but violated a rule that considers scissors to be potential weapons.

Administrators said they were following state law when they called police Thursday, and police said they were following department rules when they handcuffed Porsche Brown and took her away in a patrol wagon.

"My daughter cried and cried," said her mother, Rose Jackson. "She had no idea what she did was wrong. I think that was way too harsh."

Police officers decided the girl hadn't committed a crime and let her go.

However, school officials suspended her for five days. Administrators will decide at a hearing whether she may return to class, or be expelled to a special disciplinary school.

The scissors were discovered while students' belongings were being searched for property missing from a teacher's desk"

OMG! That is the gayest thing I have ever heard. I mean a pencil can be a weapon too.

I think I almost threw up reading that.

Hasn't the whole "bringing a weapon to school" thing kind of faded away? Why are they still so worried about it? If it was a gun, yeah, slap the cuffs on, but scissors?

Her teacher probably requires them for in-class projects.

I was gonna say, at the airport I've heard of this before (which is amazing in its own right), but at school, scissors are a necessary tool

Pissed

This kind of event really gets me mad and sad at the same time. I mean, it's not like if everyone involved is to blame, it's the god damm laws, and the ways they are applied that gets me fuming.

The story could of been different

"This just in, teacher fired for not reporting the presence of scissors in a students locker during a search performed..."

Or, just replace the proffession name to "School Principal" or "Police officer", because they decided NOT to follow state law and bury the story !

Worst still, I can already foresee that they will decide to send her to that disciplinary school, not because she is a bad girl and such, but that they will rationalize this with "If we break the rule, then it will become a free for all..."

This thing just smells really really bad.

On a small note, did anyone notice that the scissors were 8 inch long ?

However, if she would of threatened schoolmates with scissors that long, or just plainly walk around with them do stupid gestures and be potentially harmfull to herself and others AND refuse to hand them over while running away in a hamok type of way, then, I guess that type of scenario I would be able to digest it !

Anyways...

Wow, 8 inch shears? Isn't that a bit... overkill?

Holy carp! I remember, in 8th grade, my bio teacher searched us for a missing toy car used in the experiment that took place earlier that day, this is even more insane!

I'd asume by the names? but is this is an black student?...

Why is it they searched her in the first place?
the can't do so with out reason...it's a violation! of civil / privacy rights

heck i'm pretty sure they can't do so with out a police officer and a clear reason to do so... they cant search your person, your bags, or your car...

(but they can your locker)

I smell clear grounds for big lawsuit

Before you pass remarks on other people's spelling perhaps you should check up on the basic rules of grammar and punctuation...

yes, i know. the english grammar is really my problem, back in college and universities years ago. i don't speak english at all for about 20 years now,
but i think, my problem is not the spelling, as soon as i posted i'll check it again with my eyes, no spell checker is needed. i'll use a spell checker only when i have to write english for office works, maybe for once or twice a months.

Some of you may remember the post I started about the girl who got suspended for a work of fiction she wrote.

Then there's the little girl in our area who got suspended because her Tweety Bird key had a 10 inch chain on it. The chain was deemed a 'potential weapon' and she was suspended.

This sort of thing is simply defying all common sense. AND, to think that the people enforcing this nonsense are the same people TEACHING our kids!!
