Yea thats pretty amazing. Said it moved the earth's axis by an inch...which is pretty impressive considering the immense mass.

This all makes sense... I keep going dizzy.
They also reckon that the San Andreas fault line will cause a much larger tear in the earths core. Its coastaly positioned too - I'd be expecting huge waves... ![]() To say the earth has moved though is a very large statement. I'd like more proof.

Wouldn't that make the gravity change?... O.o then that.. whole gravity acceleration value would change wouldn't it?

Not too sure buddy, but I do know that the drama queens at NASA are not a tool to measure accuracy with. Without evidence or any figures to show his 'specualtion' it isnt worth considering IMO.

Yeah me too. I thought the popularity of Quake unbalanced the Earth's rotation on its axis and around the sun. Well its possible.

1st the rotation is not unbalanced. 2nd rotational speed has nothing to do with gravity. 3rd the whole theory is just that, a theory. 4th it is very interesting. 5th was there a quakecon going on at the time?

but likely this put alot of pressure on the other fault lines .. wich could be bad for people in say calafornia... as last I knew thier overdue for a really big one....

well, seing that i live about 30 miles away from the san andreas fault, i'll let you guys know when the big one hits
. The last big quake we had was the Hector quake back in October 2001 or 2002 (one of those two years), but it was announced to be a 7.2 quake on the richter scale. Luckily since it was out in the middle of no where, there wasn't any really big property damage other than a couple things fallen off some shelves in stores and houses.

Wasn't there a movie or a book or a game about a planet getting out of orbit/rogue or something? I am sure there was at least a star trek episode about it :-)
We have to create at least one big colony for better chances to survive as a species.

i think the moon could also work out. have it be as a "pit stop" type of thing before the long trip to mars

Rotational speed vs gravity has effects. The faster you spin something, no matter then masses, the larger one spinning, faster means less ability to keep objects within a certain specific radias.... not saying it won't attract anything

According to theory Moon formed from debris blasted off Earth in a giant impact.
Maybe that was the start of the Earth Rotational. As for slight wobble i cant see it, i mean, the Earth spins free. The larger the wheel the slower the speed Rotational (how would it gain speed) slight wobble in wheels allways slows down. Scientists: Quake shifts islands. The massive earthquake that devastated parts of Asia permanently moved the tectonic plates beneath the Indian Ocean as much as 98 feet (30 meters), slightly shifting islands near Sumatra an unknown distance, U.S. scientists said on Tuesday Read More CNN.Com |

Don't the plates move anyway every year? Like a meter a year? Or is it less?
I have a feeling if there is an end for humanity it will not be because of loss of orbit around the Sun. It will probably be alien invaders and many humans saying to them "you do not exist!" :-)
