OMG 350's sound good
Well, as a few of you know, I went and picked up my Camaro today...and all i can say is "Wow"
It's soooooo loud and sounds soooo good. My mom, who hates it, even came up to me and goes "damn that thing sounds good". ![]() I'll have pics and sound clips(mp3) tomorrow night, but for now you'll hafta go by word of mouth, errr, type. 1986 Z28 with the 305 ripped out and a 350 dropped in bored .30 over. Black, T-Tops, erison racing cams, holley double pump high flow carburater, 750,373 rear end on the tranny(3 speed auto), engine was done by edelbrock, has billet wheels and brand new wide racing tires, and all the parts aside from the transmission are less then 5000 miles old. Yall have no idea how happy I am to have this isntead of a civic. A civic slows down up hill in 5th gear regardless of how far down you push, and 4th gear barely accellerates any. This thing, well, lets just say it has mroe accelleration then I feel safe using until i fix the gauges ![]() I'll post pics and such in here tomorrow night, I'm just too excited to wait until then to say something

and yes a civic is overplayed so congrats on your new car. if i sup up my accord in the future i'm comin down to ATL to race that beast of yours hahaha |

![]() I'm currently waiting for the first little rice burner to pull up by me at a traffic light and rev hsi engine...so that i can rev back and make him feel insignificant and revel in my 5.7L glory ![]() Also...does anyone know where to get a speedometer calibrated? Pep boys do that? |

![]() That thing moves like nothing I'm sure. Well, talked to one of my friends on campus who's a regular car buff about it, and he said the only downside is it's real heavy. You might wanna throw on a couple of weight reduction mods pj. You'll move like a ghost, no doubt - just try to stay on the road while you're at it!!!

Getting that speedo to read right is gonna be a trick hehe. You said you have a 3 speed auto so that means its probably a th350 or th400. the last time either of those saw a camaro was 1981. You're going to need a custom gear to drop in the tailshaft of the trans its easy to do its just a plastic gear, The hard part is finding the part. You need to tell them the trans and the ratio of the rear end and hopefully they can get one for you.
Good thing it has the 3 speed though because the 4 speeds they used in those (700r4) were weak as piss. Don't know why a company would put a eak trans in a sports car lol |

It has a tweaked gear ratio already
![]() As per being heavy, yes, it is, but seeing how flooring it already strts to pull the front end off the pavement, I'm not complaining ![]() I should have pics in a couple hours |

Yes, I love the 350 as well. I have a 2000 S-10 that I am getting ready to take the 2.2L 4-cylinder motor out of. I am going to put in an LS-6 from a 2000 Trans Am. It's an aluminum block so it won't add more than 100lbs or so to the weight of the vehicle. It generates 345HP (horsepower). I am also going to throw in a T-56 6-speed manual transmission. It will be a sweet truck.

. I'd like to make my 4cyl. s-trend into a v6 some day . I've seen a couple mods here and there where they put in a v8 into them.

Yea, It's gonna be a little bit before I actually do the conversion. I would not waste the effort to swap in a v-6. You will only regret it because you will want more power.
I have done a v-8 swap before and it's a good deal of work, but this one will be the most work I have ever done in one. I am going to keep the original trans-am computers and everything and I am looking at getting 26MPG (Miles Per Gallon) with the setup I am going to have. That's a lot better than the 4-cylinder that is currently in it. I probably won't do the swap until the end of this year. It's going to take me awhile to save up and buy all of the parts. The motor is going to be about $3-5K alone. The transmission is about another $3k. There are various other parts needed for the fuel system. Custom wiring harness etc. I will have to put some time in modifying a couple parts on the frame and fabricating a new transmission crossmember. I will need a custom driveshaft. I won't start a conversion until I have all of the parts. I have seen too many projects that never get completed because the person didn't plan properly. I will post up the pics as I go through the project on my home webserver and I will throw a link up on here.

PJ, that year of car has fuel injection correct?
to bad, the older carborated engines have some of the most characteristic and powerful sounding cars. Slip the sucker in to Low/1st when doing 70 mile an hour and let the automatic kick back as soon as it can in each low gear, could be heard from miles away. i miss my 73 olds with the 455 rocket.... (blow your doors off though )

its carberatured. i dont think gm used fuel injection vechicles till 1988 i believe. Go find yourself a nice 454 to put in her., and get some blue bottle resonators... then you'll have a nice sounding engine ever. |

It is carburated, and I'm currently perplexed as to why the heater is busted...I put in a new heater core this afternoon...o well, guess I'll let a mechanic look into it.
As per how it sounds, I'll get yall those pics I took and the .mp3 sound clip tomorrow night...this has been the weekend from hell and this is the first I've been on a PC since I last typed in here. Here's what it is: -1986 Camaro z28 -Black -T-Tops -3 speed Auto gearbox(no overdrive) So far what it has(between what I've done and what was done by the prior owner): -305 ripped out and a 350 put in bored .30 over -Transmission changed to a 750, 373 rear end -Holly double pump carburater -Erison 3/4 racing cams -Billet racing wheels with frickin huge tires -Chrome exhaust tips To be done next week: -Tune the carb. to run less rich(it smokes a bit and EATS gasoline) -New stereo (JVC mp3 disc player with audiobahn 4x6's up front and a custom box for audiobahn 6x9's in back) -Alarm with remote ignition and keyless entry(and keyless trunk) -Fix the speedometer and hook up the amp gauge(speedo is 85mph, but has the 145mph plate, just need it recalibrated) -Wash and Wax and Vaccuum/Polish -Remount the steering wheel right side up (oops) -See why the heater's still busted -Replace burnt out brake/blinker bulbs To be done in the future when the $$$ is available(birthday/Xmas???): -Borla dual exhaust(possibly dual catback system )-New weather stripping -Put the window washer fluid system back in

350s..... generally between 200-250..... at most, considering the changes.... tops 275 MAYBE.... (enless thier are some really amazing changes)
302s average between 125-175.... tops i've seen is 200-225..... My mothers Boss 2 302 (high output) with a very exotic cam and additionals, puts out between 225-275 average. Course, in a 1978 Mustang Cobra 2, it's now a 10 second car..... damn.... it's amazing. It's got several drag trophies.

i dont know what your talking about judas because 350's pull a ton of power out of them. hell, the stock 350 in my 69 corvette puts out 320HP. 67-69 camaro SS's put out 295 and 300 horses with there stock 350's.
i just took a quick peek in google and see quite a few 350's pulling 400HP with some engine work done to them. |

i'm not speaking Corvette type engine configs, i highly doubt the Camaro is even close to the corvette.. (just look at the price point)
you have to do ALOT of work on them to push them to those numbers. a 455 rocket pushes between 300-350 hp super stock... I've been ALOT of cars, and i even had a good run in with 2 or 3 camaros, 2 of which has a 350..... one being late 80's and one was early 80's... the 3rd being a late 90's (and imo, they are no different then the POS ford mustangs, gutless enless you pay both legs and arms for the pure power)

actually judas, camaro's and corvettes have almost exactly the same engine (back int he 80s, anyways)
![]() If I had to guess, I'd say it has maybe 350-375HP and 400-425 torque? |

that thigns putting down some serious power then.
in my opinion, that much power more then makes up for the 3rd gens horrible looks. as for camaros and vettes with the same engine, thats been pretty much true all along. if the camaro and vettes engine arnt hte same for that year, then the camaro of the current year has the engine of the corvette from the previous year or there about. |

yup.the block is the same...corvettes get different manifolds/exhaust systems. Aside from that, same engine, and I THINK, same gearbox

a corvette with a 350? erm, must be an extremely CHEAP corvette...
350-400 hp out of the 350 on the camero?.... i have such a hard time beleive it due to a 455 super stock having only about 300-350 (300 as the cars in rough shape considering)..... and totally waxing the 3 other camaros in every drag race, not to mention smoke out competition..... Maybe the 455 is spitting out 450hp? I don't know, things aren't adding up here...
