Ummm.... it's darker than the first, as you may have heard, I wouldn't want to give much away, but there were youngsters there tonight and it seemed no problem, I'd say your good to go.

Rowlings has bastardized the world of high magic past the point of embarassing. Not enough people know anything about the ancients to realize it though, and they think it's art. Argh.

Reno get off of your self sanctomonius ass and lets us people that have an imagination get by. Just because we enjoy a good story does not mean that we don't understand that they story may be "false" or even miss-leading. I have been a devout wiccan all of my life and I realize that the magic that Rowlings presents is "bastardized" however, I also enjoy a good story and not to mention even the fact that the sories have decent morales in them and are very entertaining.

Took my kids and wife to see it opening night here. Evening starts off with a bathroom that reeks of weed being smoked. Get in the theater, daughter and I come out to get popcorn/etc (we got there quite early) to find that some old lady had been mugged.
Funny as hell, as soon as the Potter music starts, every kid in the entire theater starts going SHHHHHHHHHHHH! So all is fine...until we get to the scene in the forest. Just as they meet the big spider...wham. All the lights come on. And stay on. For 5 minutes. Finish movie without incident. Go to take boys to bathroom only to discover vomit all over the floor, and 3 movie theater employees arguing over who has to clean it up, with nobody actually DOING it. Manager finally agreed to supply complimentary passes for another movie. Won't be at THAT theater, that's for sure. Overall the movie was quite good, better than the first (and certainly less cheesy). If your kids don't want to go see it, get them a sitter and go without 'em. It's quite long though, another approaching 3 hrs ass time, so make sure it's a comfortable cinema. |

Just got back and enjoyed it better than the first one. My daughter and her friend on the other hand spent a good part of it hiding under their coats.

...I finally sat down and watched the original "Harry Potter" last night on DVD. It's one of the very few shows we got for the kids that I've never actually watched, but seeing as how I plan to take the son this week to HP2 I figured I should...
....it was phenomenal! What a freaking great kids movie, heck what a great movie!!! I'm actually looking forward to seeing the next movie!

I think you'll really enjoy Chamber of Secrets Dig I agree with Craig, it's better than the first film, if a little long. One thing that did strike me was the quality of the sound. The bass loosened a few fillings and the surround sound was amazing, especially when the Cornish pixies are released

Hmm...correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't in the Flame forum in it? Fornicat-ah- well, he knows the rest of his name seems to think so!
Anyway, anyone's opinions in the flame forum shouldn't be taken seriously...that's why it's there. So stop bleeding your inferiority complex into the other forums, kay? Anyway, I'm not a black magician...more red...hehe. I just don't like how some critics and religious figures have given these films credit as "revitalizing high magic." I mean, come on, the ancient Hebrew priests would be pissed at that, and all those monks must be turning in their graves at comments like that. And then Rowlings gets this idea that she's the next Tolkien...my ass. Want aan alternative story, watch Hellraiser, or for a "magical" story, pick up Boorman's "Excalibur." |

She's very much not the next Tolkien, and she knows that very much. That's why she rights children's books, and Tolkien had a much older audience in mind, tho I kno 9yr olds that have read Lord Of The Rings, and like it much better than Potter. But yes please can all petty name calling be conducted in the flame forum

I look at it like this, look at "The Hobbit" and compare it to the "best" Harry Potter book...The Hobbit is VERY geared toward children, and it is just better written than any of Rowling's works. Rowling writes very much like a children's book version of Stephen King without all the swear words....what I dread, is that they have a 7 movie deal for ALL the Harry Potter books...can we say "cash cow?"

Kid's magic film? The Labyrinth! YEAH! Although I hated that movie.
I agree, it may be a great kid's movie...but I'm not a kid, and to call it anything but that is giving it much too much credit. I know, I'm a fogey...but I just...Harry Potter...it's worse than Pokemon to me. |

Re: Harry Potter 2: Discuss
I think that Harry Potter is all about making much money, selling crap to kids who don't understand.
I watch the first part, and whole story is going sooooo slooow and jokes are bad (if there are).
