My new RX-8 (56k warning)

Hey guys......yesterday i went out to my local Mazda car dealer just to look around (yea right). Well, immediately after i arrived a sales person went out to greet me. In the first few momments he asked me what kind of car i was looking for. I told him that i was "just looking at the momment". He was like ok, no big deal, and proceeded in asking me questions as to what kind of car i was interested in, and told him specifically the RX-8, but that i was just looking.

Well, to make a long story short, I ended up buying a used RX-8 with only 5,800 miles on it (i still think that it's brand new cuz it's barely had it's second oil change).

And here are the pix of my new ride

. Car is kinda dirty cuz it was raining last night and i just drove around to break in my engine.

ahh.....it's so awsome at handling. The suspension is really tight and the ride is impressivley smooth. I so love my new car

If you lived in the OTHER Ontario you wouldn't have such nice pics (e.g. weather would consist of snow and slush and be overcast and cold).

Nice car, good deal getting it 'gently used' although it would be interested to hear why the original owner coughed it up so soon. Defaulted on lease payments would be my guess, or a dealership demo model.

PS I like my cars like i like my women -- broken in and easy to ride, don't mind a few miles on them.

the rx8 wasn't an rx7 replacement. The rx7 is a lot faster but the rx8 will out handle it anyday.

BTW your car kicks ass. What kind of wheels are they? they aren't stock, nor is the grill in the front.

i think they are factory option wheels and grill, as that's the high end model.

And yes, I have driven an RX7 and can vouch for their "Oh sh-- it's fast!" factor, as well as their squirrely RWD handling.

Haven't gotten to drive a RX8 yet tho

Why don't they make more cars with hatchbacks? Seriously that has got to be my biggest gripe about new cars, if you ever need to put crap in them you can't.

PJ is correct about my grill and rims being on the high end package for my new car.

I never did drive an rx-7, so i don't know the difference in performance between the two cars. If my digi cam weren't so dated ('99 or back when they first came out....thing connects to serial port

) and could take better shots in the dark, i would take a pic of my instrument panel at night to show it off to you guys

. Imna take some more pix of the car tonight w/the lights turned on and everthing to show you guys what it looks like in the dark

i LOVE IT but i heard that rotary engines don't make much torque... im not to sure about that though but it's what i've heard.

Well the primary problem is not that they dont create much torque.....the problem is that they are so light that the tires have trouble gripping the road when its loaded down. This is meant to be an extremely fast, light, agile car that takes corners like a madman. Dont expect to pull a trailer with this sucker. It is just too light. Btw, the RX-7 FD REQUIRED a spoiler, otherwise the back tires would slide around on surface streets at around 40mph. Seriously...it was that bad. With the spoiler, that sucker can go faster than most cars I've seen. Plus its gorgeous.

The RX-8 is truely a work of art.

But dude one thing...after 78000 miles, there is a good chance that you'll have to get the engine rebuilt. The RX series requires little mainainance, but arfter that 70000+ miles the seals break and the engine is no longer able to build up pressure. You'll only be able to start the car going downhill after the seals break(and they will break).

At least that was my neighbors problem. They may have changed things with the newest model.

the rx7's do need a rebuild ever 2/3 - 3/4 of a "century" (100k miles), I don't know about rx8s.....

the most fun i have ever had with a car was killing a magnum HEMI. but i need to try and rx-8, that car just looks like i would be king of the streets. its so tempting to race but insurance is a BEOTCH. i see about as many corvettes as rx-8's here in toronto. they both catch your eyes.
