Sounds cool. This technology could be very good if used responsibly. ..... but who's gonna stop people from burning a backup within 36 hrs

Well from looking at the article, it sounds like there coated in a chemical which reacts with oxygen and covers the disc's surface in an alotted time depending on the concentration rendering it unreadable, I don't like the idea. but if they went up in smoke, now that would be cool.

I cannot see HOW the technology will be practical for many things though - and it's hardly environmentally friendly.

The cost of producing and delivering are it's biggest weakness, in areas such as "the DVD rental you don't have to take back" - and also the wastage factor!

i just find it amazing how everyone is in ooh and ahh even though the company that develped this announced it like 8 months ago heh

Why pay an extra 50 cents when you can just throw it away and clog up the landfills with a cheap "self-destructive DVD?"

Who needs one rental viewed by hundreds? When we could have hundreds viewed by a few?
