Human Genome Project is overr!!

My uncle works for Pfizer (science place which makes lots of medicines and stuff like gum dentine i think it is) but yeah he was telling me how this dude from oxford found the longevety gene that can make u live for 5000 years (but there would be obious stuff like getting hit by a car or ur organs stopping to work...) .. and he was asking my grandpa for his thoughts on it (religious thoughts etc) but yeah he was like the genome project is over they found all of the human genes..

just letting u guys know for who ever didint hear about it

pretty neat though

Some how I doubt this...
The project has not been running long enough.....

http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresource...ome/home.shtml

They are still working on the data and there is planly left to learn...
Even if you know what affects what, you still don't know how to change
it or the effects of that change....

that project was just the tip of the ice berge we have long way to go....

Read "The Terminal Experiment" by Robert J Sawyer and you'll realise how unlikely immortality really is. There's about 10 different reasons why we age that we currently understand, and its not all related to one single gene. Although yes the longevity gene will allow you to maintain a youthful musclemass, body structure, etc, there's a ton of other things that will kill you. Free radicals contribute to cancer, sooner or later you won't be able to avoid it. Heart disease, obesity, etc also contribute. Longevity gene is also not related to brain & spinal tissues which reach maturity at a very young age... it is unknown how many miles your extended warranty for your brain is good for. No point in living to 500 if you're a raving schizophrenic, or maybe you can't remember the first 250 years. The worst part about the longevity gene is that it will allow you to continue reproducing cells for most tissues after their normal lifespan (typically cells can only divide/replicate under 50 times IIRC)... but what happens to the tissues/organs/bonestructure that is finite and not related to this gene? You're body becomes out of whack...you've got nice healthy biceps, but your underlying bones are the consistency of rotting balsawood -- you can only consume so much calcium to deter osteoperosis.

As for cryogen, again no dice...freezing you automatically destroys your cell structure, no way they can recover compromised tissue after the fact. Its like trying to unpop popped bubble wrap. Also, the chemical energy/brainwaves in your brain will deteriorate rapidly after death, even if they could reanimate your corpse you wouldn't be you...all your memories would be disjointed, you've be again a raving lunatic.

Unless you're from the Planet Zeist and have a penchant for severing heads, immortality is impossible.

here the email from my uncle...
From : xxxxxxx, James <xxxxxxxx@pfizer.com>

Subject : RE: Hey!

Here's one article. Search under genome or genes to find similar articles
on the human genome. We have solved the human genome, and found the gene
linked to aging, now it's just a matter of time until we know how to control
the gene. This article is 5 pages, kind of boring, but has allot to say
about the subject. Uncle James
