I would appreciate all of your prayers

Tomorrow at 9:30am my mother will be going in to have back surgery. They'll basically be cutting out part of her spine and hopefully not accidentally hitting any nerves.

Supposedly its routine and I know lots of (old) people that have had the surgery and its been great for them...but there is an unsettling chance of complications (especially considering my mother's medical history).

So, whatever religion or lack of religion that you come from, please keep her in your thoughts. This is a REALLY sucky thing. Unfortunately she is losing the use of her left leg because of the pressure on her spine. Supposedly its going to all clear up after the surgery though.

aw well we've all mostly survived hospitals. I'm the only one that got fubar from hospitals, so I'm not SUPER worried.

you just think of all the possibilities when you see someone goin under the knife. Plus shes old and heals slowly. I dunno its just not fun times.

I think I'm going to get out of class tomorrow and just go to the hospital. She has forbidden me from sitting in the waiting room but im so going to go. I wont sit in class waiting for a call.

All the best, my thoughts are with her, I'm cuurently going through similar with my ol'man who has a tumour on his spine (unoperable unfortunately), my sister in law- DVT and a diskectomy and myself (a fubar'd thumb).

Keep your chin up and look after her and I'm sure all will be well.

wouldnt worry bout it too much. i know 2 people that had back/neck surgery with in the last 5 years, one of them with in the last year. they both came out fine with out any problems.

I have had 3 major back surgeries, I think she will be fine (medical technology has advanced quite a bit in this area over the past few years). Good luck to you and your mom. I can tell you from experience the worst part is worrying about it before the surgery..

Just make sure after the surgery and during recovery that the nurses do what they are suppose to do and tend to her as they should and keep her comfortable- sometimes nurses are way overworked.

Dude, I feel for ya, I am working at a hospital that takes care of wounded american soldiers and I watch their families wait with expectation for surgery to be successful, it is so hard man.

Sorry your grandmother had to go through this GW - I'd be concerned as you are if I were in your shoes...

thanks guys. And Swimtech...I cant believe you remember from last summer when my grandma was there. Yeah she didnt make it out of the hospital...

BUT...the operation TODAY was a complete success and has made some DRASTIC IMMEDIATE improvements. My mother looks normal. She doesnt even look like she was in surgery!

They had to remove a square inch of spinal material that had leaked out from the rupturing...yeah THATS whats been fucking her up for years. Appearently it probably started when she was pregnant with me considering the damage I did to her spine then(I paralyzed her when I was in the womb. she couldnt walk until after iwas born)
