Any buffy the vampire slayer fans here?

If so, ive a question.

Its a show I watched "bits of" across the years and I always wanted the collection, however with each of the seven series costing £40 here or thereabouts it was an expensive outlay.

Anyway to cut a long story short I won the whole series in a boxed set on ebay and it arrived today, I knew it was an asian set before I got it, 50 DVDs in total. However after working out the series discs I have seen that series 2 has in fact ended short in this set

http://www.tvtome.com/BuffytheVampireSlayer/eplist.html

it has ended at "bad eggs" and not the season finale of "becoming1/2"

How the fascinating thing is this - all series in this box set have either 6 or 8 dvds, and series 2 is no exception, so I know the guy who sold me it hasnt lost half of them and tried a fly move.

however im a bit confused, anyone from asia here aware of the running episode list of season 2 in their country?

Yes tvtome is the definative list for sure, most strange this asian boxset has half of season 2 omitted. anyway its not a big deal, i got it for the same price I would have bought two seasons, so ill maybe just pick up season 2 and put it in the boxset to properly complete it.

No they are english language discs, just like USA and UK (I checked that first), but they come with additional asian subtitles (which you can turn off). They are just "sold" in asia.

so for all intents and purposes they are basically just region 6 coded discs identical to the USA and UK counterparts.

However, series 2 is most strange as I said, each season has 6-8 discs, with series 2 having 6 but it just ends mid season. All the other seasons match tvtomes listing identically.

They're probably bootlegs. They get usually the US release, rip them and then compress them onto 6 or 8 DVDs and add Chinese subtitles. Whatever they can't fit in the amount of discs they want to use via compression they'll cut episodes out to make the season fit.

An easy way to tell is to look at the back of the boxes and see who they give credit to. If they just say it's copyrighted but doesn't list any companies (especially the company that produced it) that's a good sign of bootleg.

Also if the cover art looks pretty much exactly like a US or UK release, here is an example. The first image is the actual retail japanese DVD. The second image is the Hong Kong Bootleg.

The menus and everything are exactly the same but the quality of the movie isn't. The original japanese has an average bitrate of 8mbps while the bootleg has 5mbps. I've done work dicsussing bootlegs with the now deceased website of orangeb.com so I learned a lot about this stuff.
