How can you watch somethign like star wars or LoTR or any of those "Epic saga" sorts of movies on anything but a theater screen with that bitchin DSS/THX 14.6 surround sound(i know...my theater is rich)

just remember everyone that lucas hasn't made a good movie in over 25 years... he directed Star Wars, then let others do Empire and ROTJ. Given TPM and AoTC, I'm not anticipating anything special.

I'll still see it in the theater now that ticket prices have been reduced to $9.00 CAD here in Toronto, but I doubt it will ever enter my DVD collection.

well, i think that lucas wrote indiana jones and spielburg directed it.

i was d/ling this file, but it stopped at 94.4% and hasn't budged since, so i'm guessing people caught onto it being fake and stopped sharing it. i guess i'll do the same.

but lucas can't stop me from watching the bonus material dvd over and over again...those few glimpses of the final duel are almost worth having that DVD included in the box set.

i'm pissed, last night i went out and bought the boxed set from best buy for 52 dollars plus tax, and today at work i saw it for 45 bucks, plus i would have gotten a 10% employee discount. damn them restocking the day after i bought it :*(

Producer, he was the producer for both. No direction.

Indiana Jones = Spielberg.
Willow = Ron Howard IIRC.

The knock against Lucas from day 1 is that he can't direct actors (which is an important skill), and ever since his divorce in the early 80s his sense of dramatic pacing has been waaaay off in alot of his work.

There's numerous stories about how Alec Guiness, Lucas' wife, Coppola, etc had to intervene during the filming of star wars (and empire) to prevent Lucas from doing stupid things. For example, Lucas hated Anthony Daniels as C3P0 and wanted someone like BURT REYNOLDS to do his voice. Guiness, who was in it for the money, basically told Lucas he'd walk if Daniels was cut -- that Daniels was comedic gold and would counterbalance the melodrama.

In general Lucas is a good idea man, good conceptualist and good cinematographer (hence his role in Apocalypse Now). He has a few significant weaknesses, however: inability to write dialogue, bad direction for actors, and in later years an unwillingness to accept constructive criticism.

These 3 recent movies are decent, but some 'peer review' and some assistance w/ the screenplays would have made HUGE differences. No way Leigh Brackett would have written Jar-Jar the way he came out; and the meandering plot of Attack of the Clones would have been focused much more succinctly...there's just as much action in Empire, but its action with purpose. When Ewan MacGregor and Natalie Portman look wooden and stitled on screen, the director is at fault -- they're proven actors many times over.

BTW, watch Rotten Tomatos every day from here on out...all the 'preview' screenings and reviews by Fanbois are over and legitimate reviews are now being posted. Peter Travers panned it, as did Rick Groen from the Globe and Mail...Ebert gave it 3 stars but his words speak otherwise.
