I hope this isnt a repost. I know I have seen it before and still cant get over how tough and smart these dogs are. I love the clip where dog jumps the car and tackles the shooter.

I don't know about in other countries, but in America police dogs are actually officers of the law. If you shoot a police dog, you are tried for the murder of a police officer. The same goes for police horses, if they still exist.

Police horses do still exist? I thought I heard that they were disbanded in NY a while ago, and that NY was the only city that still used them in the US. I must just be remembering incorrectly, I heard that a while ago.

They're still here in Baltimore, although not as common...

Watch COPS - you still see them quite often. Mardi-gras is one example.

Yeah, horses are commonly used when alot of pedestrians are involved as they can move about without the constraint of a usual police car. Nice video. Wouldn't want to get nabbed by one of those.

Well, i have to agree with that. The dogs should release instantly when ordered to, and that dog that bit the handler in the hand should fail immediatly to be a police dog. I have some experience with both army and police trained dogs, and they should NEVER turn on their handler no matter what.

The interesting thing about the dogs in a hostage situation... the offender is expecting to have to kill the hostage or shoot a cop if apprehended. But the dogs move so fast, and they're unexpected, so the offender panics and freezes just long enough for the dogs to grab a hold. Also, the dogs won't stop if you shoot the hostage or not, so your attention is immediately diverted.

Its either that, or a PSG-1 shot to the head.
