An Absolutely True Story!

(My brother knows the people involved and shared this with me some time ago. Long before gas prices reached anywhere near their current prices.)

A father and son living in Brooksville, FL (about 50 miles north of Tampa) decided they wanted to drive up to Canada and do some big game hunting. Since they'd never gone on such a long trip together like this before, the son was beside himself with excitement and insisted that they drive his truck. The two were going to take turns sleeping and drive straight through.

So, after packing the truck one evening, they got some shuteye and got up very early to get started. The son would drive the first 'shift' while Dad slept.

About 45 - 50 minutes up the road the son pulled into a gas station, put $5 worth of gas in the tank, bought some coffee, used the restroom, got back in the truck and took off. Dad was a little puzzled but didn't think much about it.

Another 45 - 50 minutes up the road, the son pulled into another gas station, put $5 in the tank, got some more coffee, got back in the truck and took off. Dad was kind of stumped, but still didn't say anything.

Still another 45 - 50 minutes up the road, the son once again pulled into a gas station and put another $5 worth of gas in the tank. After taking care of anything else he needed to, the son got back in the truck with his Dad sitting straight up and really puzzled.

"Son," the Dad said, "We're driving to Canada. We're not even out of the State of Florida, yet, and you've already stopped for gas three times! What's going on?"

"Dad," the son replied, "I'm sorry. I forgot to tell you. My gas tank's got a hole in it. It'll only hold $5 worth at a time."
