[Dyre Straits]

A wealthy, self-made man was reaching his twilight years and had 3 sons. He called them all to his office one day for an announcement.

"I'm reaching the end of my years here and have accumulated a world of wealth. I've decided that I'm going to prove that you CAN take it with you when you go, and I'm going to depend on the three of you to do your part," he declared.

With that, he gave each of them a briefcase filled with 1 million dollars in cold, hard cash.

"When I die," he started, "I want each of you to take the briefcase I've given you and place it into my casket just before they close the lid."

Then he made them swear a solemn oath that they would do so.

Well, the years went by and the old man hung on quite well. However, he finally succumbed to old age and died.

As they had sworn, each of them placed the briefcase he'd given them years before into the casket before they closed the lid. The old man was then buried.

On the way back to the hearse, one of the men broke down and told the others, "I have a confession. I didn't put all the money into dad's casket. We had some reverses over the years and I dipped into that briefcase for some emergency funds. BUT, I did put $600,000 in there."

The second son replied, "Well, don't feel bad. I, too, had some things come up and decided I needed to use some of that cash for remodeling our home and my own office. BUT, I did put $400,000 of the cash in there."

The third son looked at his two brothers and declared, "Fellas, I'm really ashamed of the both of you! I'll have you know that I put personal check in there for the entire one million dollars!"
