I agree and disagree, depends on the maturity of you children,
I read the Hobbit at 7, but some aspects of LOR, might have been scary at that that time, Read Fellowship at 8, well maybe I'm not a good reference here.

As parents, let US decide, A little parental guidence, will go a long way, but it is a great story til fil our young ones in on, its timeless,
And lets face it, as far as I'm concerned, Parent's are way to forgiving these days. Let's get with it,

That's all,
And WyretheWolf, I'll try to get my Wife to give a 4 paws up

I'll let you know

Interesting, I haven't seen it yet, but unlike some of my friends, spoilers are pretty much a "Can't Happen" for me, since I have been reading this series since 1974 when I was seven.
Own several complete sets of Tolken's series, Including The Silmarillon and the other, backstory releases.

Amazing the amount people who have never read it
Going to see it this weekend, sounds like I will be pleased
I'm already pleased to see the inclusion of Ents in the preview
( No spoiler there, If you haven't read the book, you wont know what the heck I'm talking about )
This follows the exclusion of The Great Oak, and Tom Bombadill(know I spelled it wrong, always do) from Fellowship.
I'm sure they had time restrictions, its a long series!!!

Looking forward to it !!!
Another series I wouldn't mind seeing for the "Big Screen" is Stephen King's The Dark Tower. Big fan
The last 3 parts of that series, all are set to be released by late fall next year. For those of you who like to read as much as I do

Cheers
I reckon it needed an extra half hour on the end

Tom was *apparently* left out because it did not move the story along,

But i have to say compared to the animated version, Peter J's doing one hellova job and I'm eagerly awaiting the return of the king, and it's gonna be 5 hours long by reckoning!!! hehe

Kewl, But lets not forget the knight's in there sleeping Tomb's, from Fellowship, which I can not comment on, Would be a Spoiler, LOL Draws on the 3rd book, hmm

Tom helped out on that one, HEH, seems you know your LOR as well.

As for peoples who haven't read the books, there is a very long pause between The Bywater Bridge, and Bree, thats what we were taking Bout

Cheers Craig5320, REMEMBER MORGOTH ??????????

I could see it being a little frightening for an 8yr old. My suggestion is to rent the first one... Show it to her, and then see how she reacts to that one. That is my $0.02 usd

She's gone behind the sofa and won't come out!

I've decided against taking her as she put her coat over her head whilst watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Also, at 3 hours, I think the film is a little long for her.

Sounds like you've made the right choice
I'm looking at a 12 year old as opposed to 8, big difference.

When the movie is released for home, at least you can regulate the content, yourself. Kinda hard in a big, loud theatre !!

Wasn't refering to age of reading, was refering to age of viewing
As for reading, yes it is very complex, That's why I mentioned the Silmarillion, it is the content created by Tolkien as a backstory, which is necessary

Moonfleet is another novel, which is written in kind of Old English, Have you read it ?, One of my Fav's

In general, I'm a songwriter, Recording Artist, but have also written a full length novel myself, entitled " Haven", been working on it over 10 years

I'm looking for a title for this, a song gone wrong, but still has appeal, "The Past" sucks, DH think of a better title for my short poem, written 8 years ago:

Suppose I should have created my own thread, OH WELL, here she flies

Marvels of the Sun,
Or so they have become.
Ever calling out to you,
In forgotten tongues of youth.

Shadows twisting luck or fate,
Shapes of now or then they make.
Times behind or yet to come,
Here and gone they soon are done.
