My new shitbox computer

So here we go, with 800$ between x-mas eve (me b-day) and x-mas... I decided on this...

Mobo: Giga-byte 7VAX KT400 (retail) for $89 from newegg
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2100 (retail) from googlegear for 99$
RAM: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 400mhz Cas2 Memory w/Heat Spreader (retail) @ $170.00 from googlegear

All prices included shipping.....actually the shipping was free....but yeah, you know.

And I am now happy.....a new rig (minus a vid card) for just 358$
Happy birthday and merry christmas to me.

Not a bad rig DriveEuro. I'm glad that you had a good birthday and Christmas.

Nahhh 350W generic is plenty for that rig. I get by just fine with a generic 300W and I have a power-hungry 9700 Pro!

Its my opinion that a good PSU is very necesary for good overclocking though. It may run fine, but when you are running a crazy slab of silicon, you need very stable power or you are going to get a voltage drop that crashes your system, or if you overvolt too much, a volt spike that fries something rather badly. Good PSU ~= Good Overclocking, if you ask me...

Yeah, I just got a Palamino XP2100 also, my bro upgraded his to a XP2400 Thoroughbred and I got the hand-me-down. I'm at 55C on the Palamino too(51c when idling at desktop with just MusicMatch playing). But I'm just running the stock AMD heatsink on it right now. I'm thinking about gettin' a ThermalTake Volcano 7+ for the bastard, my bro is using that one and the sucker has a hard time just getting up to temperature without turning down the fan speed. Although I'll have to admit, I've been very stable in my new rig so far. Besides, it keeps my bedroom nice and warm in the winter.

So, at what point does the CPU melt down?
