Being offered a new job, Don't know what salary to ask ?
Hey guys and gals,
long post so skip if you do not have patience, but appreciate any input ![]() Basicaly, I'm being offered a job, and tomorrow, they should be sending me a offer, or have me discuss that with the Customer Service Director. The CSM I spoke to today told me he'd contact the CSD and HR and see that "a offer that is good for both sides" is put forward. The tone was very good, and very positive. CSM told me that I was the candidate they wanted to go through with. I spent almost an hour and a half during the interview last Thursday , whereas the two 1st candidates had 45 minutes and the last one after me had 15 minutes only ![]() So the position is sort of a "On-site Technical Support rep and Project manager" for eastern Canada. The title for the position is Application Specialist. I will take care of all "new" installations/upgrades and training of hardware & software on site for all of the product lines at each customer site!! Mostly NT/2000 boxes running turn key solutions for medicinal dispensing and RX management of those machines etc... That also entails deciding with the customer when and where and how for anything related to that. I will work from home, and they pay part of the rent (95% sure, but no idea how much). They pay most of the cell phone plan, they provide the notebook (like if I need it, but hey, I'll find it's usefullness for sure with that job) and they pay a portion of the internet access. I will have no supervision or very little. And we are talking about a Fortune 500 company, and equipment that is not sold, only rented, and for millions per year. I will cover entirely the greater Montreal area (50% of customers or more) and and the rest in Quebec province, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It's health care related the field I'm in. Meaning hospitals and a few private companies maybe. I will take part in most meetings with the customer and our sales team for contracts, to ensure some technical details are not left out and about who takes care of what etc... The CSM told me that for 6 months there is a lot of traveling and overnight out of town (2 or more days out of town), and 6 months of doing much less traveling and out of "home/office" activities (Even said like calling the customer while in my night robe in the morning discussing training for nurses lol). I will cary a pager at all times, and although I do not do "reactive" service, I will coordinate them mostly in the 1st year or two since I have to train my customers to call the Helpdesk for that type of need. I will have to move back to Montreal, where I lived for all of my life. I just moved up to Quebec city for my Support Specialist position a year ago. Rent will be more expensive, and I should livve ideally within 1 hour of Montreal, although I'll probably live in the West-Island suburbds. Anyways, I might be leave out some details but thats pretty much it I guess. My question to you is how much is a job like that supposed to pay in "Canadian" dollars.

I know one of them is paid 52k US for south eastern USA, but since it's up here in Canada, I wonder if they give the equivalent or they dont convert. Also, this job is a billingual post, French speaking customers 70%
I've been looking like crazy on the net, and I can sorta find a figure of between 55k and 65K US, but that's including the fact that some of them live in expensive areas. Bear in mind, I have not really nailed down the exact description of the job I'm tending for, to compare to known job descriptions. (I found this which is quite close, it's #7023 but no staff to expidite the work, except for deployments of whole product lines onsite http://www.culpepper.com/info2/jobtitles.aspx?SID=257) Montreal is expensive for Canada, but not quite like Boston or San Diego etc... Ahh well, I guess I'll see what they offer me 1st, then figure out my take home pay + bonuses, and factor in the higher living expenses and see if It's worth it. Until then, I can only speculate, but knowing your market value always helps beforehand... If any more comments go ahead people, and thanks so far for the feedback farkas
