Default Post just how SECURE are you?? a firewall test for you all

ok guys ive a test for you all....

I want you to go to http://scan.sygate.com/ and run the QUICK SCAN, STEALTH SCAN, then the TROJAN SCAN.. and tell me if you passed all the tests.....

then go to norton.com http://www.symantec.com/securitycheck/ and run the "find out today if you are safe" link ..... tell me if you passed all the tests on this one as well.

I have been hearing from people that those running netscape navigator 7 beta .. are failing 2 tests on the norton one even with a topend firewall installed.....

post your findings ..

I passed ALL the tests with sysgate personal firewall pro 5.0 Build 1117 and IE6 on both sites .... this is a very good thing to run, especially for those of you on static IP with cable or DSL etc.

Hi Zardon. For testing your firewall, I would personally suggest using Gibson Research Corporation . Check out the Shields Up section for an unbiased look at your system, regardless of browser type(Symantec's site wouldn't run the scans on Mozilla properly, they recommend IE from M$, which they are heavily invested in, so much for objectivity)

Ran the scan, all ports either blocked or closed.
I have a Linksys router to block the unwanted traffic.
Check out this link for some other info and a very good port scan test among other things.

Also you should check out this other page cause even when all ports are closed, browsers bugs could still cause some damage (only for M$ bugware)

Personally, I think the Steve Gibson hold the guiness book of records entry for sticking your head the furthest up your ass. He's claimed to have "discovered" new "threats" and made "miracle cures" for them. Unfortunately for him, there's prior art for this very thing in Linux and BSD networking cores for the last 5 years or so.....

As for his "Leak Test" program - think about this.
A firewall is for stopping things getting into your computer - not really letting things get out. Although, corporation do this to stop people running Kazza and IM clients at work. I install a program - I except it to get out by default. Thusly I don't install spyware/viruses, etc.
Anti-virus/anti-spyware programs erase the nasty stuff for me. If they don't then they're not very good because they aren't working as advertised. More people run anti-virus than firewalls. In fact, most corporate PC's have anti-virus install whereas they only have firewalls at key points.

In other words, Steve Gibson is making loads of noise about nothing - he's just an immature kid screaming for attention.

Hmm.. apparently my D-Link router isn't much of a firewall.. strange.. I could have sworn that was one of its features. Oh well.. I'm not worried.
