I would like to note that the "Japanese Twins" portrayed in the most recent Austin Powers release were so painfully not Japanese it was laughable. Furthermore, their names were not even good parodies of Japanese names (The only consonant that can be found at the end of ANY Japanese word is "n"). I resolve to be politically active this year. ^_^

I've never met, nor spoken to any people from Japan. My sole experience of their looks, dress and culture is through books, TV and the internet. Saying that, the twins in that movie looked suitably Japanese to me.

But then, I could say the same things about the English

I resolve to be politically active this year. ^_^

Not to put you on the spot or anything, I think what you meant to say was "suitably Asian." They were indeed Asian, but clearly not Japanese.

I'm not arguing the correctness of the terms since I agree with you on that one, (Me brother's wife is Chinese and 'plained to me how offensive that was.), but I was curious as to how you can say "clearly not Japanese"? Without causing any offence, how are they clearly NOT Japanese?
I know some people that can't tell the difference between Indians and Pakistanians. I sometimes can't tell the difference and I see 'em near enough most days of the week.

The twins in Goldmember were Korean... I had a korean roommate my freshman year of college. He said that he had seen them in korean movies before. I know he can vouch for the fact that they are korean.

Well, listen, their accents were very unJapanese (although it is not inconceivable for a Japanese person attempting to speak English to sound the way they did, it is unlikely). There is a very distinct and noticable difference between, say, a Chinese person's accent and a Japanese person's accent. They did not have what one would typically consider a Japanese accent. Secondly, they don't look Japanese. They have face structures unlike that of most Japanese, and their skin color is pretty inconsistent with those of a Japanese person, and I don't think it's a matter of a suntan.

Now, the phyiscal difference between Chinese and Japanese is sometimes obvious, but I for one would not fault any of you if you failed to tell the difference. I probably would, too, on occasion. Koreans, Chinese, and therefore, Japanese, can look similar, as well. But other Asians are, for the most part, very distinctly different looking people.

Here, allow me to render this lesson in pictures.

I'm not as familiar with what Koreans look like, but here is BoA (a Korean singer in Japan) and actress So Young (I think):

Now, there are definitely differences between the races as those pictures illustrate. There are different eye shapes, face shapes, and generally different facial structure. But the difference between a Japanese person and virtually any other Asian is dramatic. Compare the above pictures to Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, and Filipino people that Google found! I have to apologize for the absurdity of the Malaysian picture -- that's all I could find.

Now, I'm not really sure why I embarked on this pictoral journey, but to sum it all up, I just want to say that there are physical differences between Japanese, Chinese, Korean, what have you-- and that one can typically form an educated guess as to what race somebody is based on those things. While I am surprised that those two women are, as DriveEuro says, Korean, I am totally not surprised that they are not Japanese. They did not sound Japanese, and they certainly did not look Japanese.
