Have you RMAed an unlocked AMD CPU?

I am wondering whether AMD has RMAed any CPUs that have been unlocked. I ask because I want to unlock my 2100 to get a massive FSB and I wanna be able to return it if possible.

Have any of you RMAed an unlocked processor successfully? If so then how noticeable was the markings from unlocking?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I think that AMD techs would probably notice the pits being filled... So would anyone else.

NOOOOOOOOO that's not what I mean....say you fry your CPU, THEN you remove the coductive stuff being used to connect contacts.... Essentially you are sending them the CPU as you orginally bought it (locked and now dead or fried)

you more than likely wont get a refund. AMD have pretty advanced techniques for determining if you have been messing with the CPU. if of course you buy from a retailer you know on good terms or isnt particularly detailed on investigating returns, you should get a refund/replacement.

I realize what you are saying. I am saying that the pits will have to be filled in order to unlock the processor. Even if you remove the conductive material... They will still be able to tell that the CPU has been messed with. Personally I always buy OEM processors... 30day warranty. Less expensive... and I never use the DEFAUL (shudders at the thought of default) HSF.

Default speeds are for woosies :P

Well I don't use the heatsink either. I just needed it in this case because I gave my sister my old board and computer parts and need A heatsink so I figured I'd buy a retail XP for myself. Comes with 3 year warranty and a heatsink. Worked perfectly for me.
