Actually its funny you mention that. Alot of guys on swimteam would hyperventilate right before an event to you know... raise their blood oxygen. The trouble is that your body will think you wont need to breathe...and so they'll dive in and they just wont breathe. 2 laps into the race they'll pass out dead in the water. It totally sucks cause I was usually the one jumping in to save the idiots, BUT it was sorta funny too. Our coach had to put a ban on that.

Well I was only getting about a minute with my pathetic lungs out in the air but when I hyperventilated, I pushed it further
