I recently read about this car in Newsweek. And all I can say is, if this kind of pushing-the-envelope is what we can come to expect in the coming years, Japan and Europe are going to have some stiff American competition as far as cars go.
![]() Anyway, it's still only in the concept phase, but it is still jaw-dropping. Besides the amazing design, this car will be equipped with a mind-blowing 1000 horsepower V16 engine. It will features silk, fine wood, and crystal in its interior. At $250,000, it's not cheap, but it BLOWS away similarly priced Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Mercedes in terms of horsepower.

Z', we Americans can take plenty of abuse!
We get criticized by every country in the world constantly, but we are still among the proudest people in the world. I guess we have a still upper lip -- did we get it from you guys?

Nice car. However, if the suspension is anything like the Lexus I drove for a few weeks it can stay in the states.

The true highlight of this car is the built-in champagne cooler in the back! Only Rolls has one of those, as far as I can tell, and Rolls doesn't have that brutal American V16 engine.... oh I so want one of these...

OK, let's hear from the people who aren't excited about this car. For example: me.

Excuse me. Americans = bigger. Y'all = refined. Bigger? Refined. Bigger? Refined. ... BIGGER
You just don't understand us Americans, do you? btw, I really don't care that much about cars made anywhere in the western hemisphere :coughricecough:, so I'm just debating for my fellow Americans

If you don't mind, I'd like to point out that I am not a normal American - I speak more than one language, I intend to go to college, I refuse to use y'all unless it is really appropriate, and I don't have a shotgun
But still... bigger is better. Unless you have better, AND bigger, which is even better...

But we have bigger transistor counts, bigger voltage drops, bigger process increases, bigger engineering ideas! Bigger cache! BIGGER IS BETTER DAMMIT!

So bigger monetary loans are a good thing? Maybe bigger nuclear missiles so we can kill the world another 30 times?

Firstly, I reject the notion that Europeans are more refined than Americans, but I stress that this doesn't mean I think lowly of you.
![]() Anyway, I don't really know anything about cars, but the new Cadillac Sixteen strikes me as being a piece of design genius. Not only is it stupidly extravagant (crystal, silk, fine wood, champagne cooler, seats that recline into beds, LED lights, etc.), it is also vastly more powerful than any other luxury car ever. It is, quite simply, a bold move. As far as cars go, we Americans have fallen behind both Europe and Japan, but if this kind of ballsy risk-taking design is what we can come to expect from the likes of GM, I think America has the potential to assert itself as the dominant player. Show me a car that looks like the Sixteen, with its fusion of classic and ultramodern design. Show me a luxury car with a 1,000HP V16 engine! And, remember, this is a car from Cadillac. They don't have the kind of recognition or reputation worldwide that is afforded to Merc's or BMWs. The Sixteen represents an almost hubristic attitude of an American car manufacturer's refusal to be the underdog. And I hope they deliver. Quote:

Javafox, poll? Bigger is better?
I personally don't think that the sixteen will let GM claim ascendancy to the throne of "Maker of Best Car", but it looks damn good - my only reservation would be that this is a prototype, and stuff normally gets cut going from prototype to production, but so long as they keep it price competitive with the others in it's class and don't lose too much, I get the feeling that its a winner Just to get an idea of how much 1000hp is, though, think of that new Enzo Ferrari - its called the closest thing to a street legal F1 race car... and it has 600hp Of course, the Cadillac is much slower because of it's weight, but thats some serious power its pushing around...

i think it's worthwhile to mention that the sixteen is 1 of only 2 production cars that have more than 700 hp. furthermore, the other one has 987 hp after quad-turboing. this one has 1000 hp naturally aspirated. also, it costs $500,000 less than the 987 hp one.
oh, and judging by the room (or lack of) in the wheel wells, tire profile, and car height, the skidpad should be pushing 1g... other cars that get 1g are the corvette, viper, and porche 911. |

Uh, if you want an American then you can have this. But personally I'd rather have a performance car with 16 cylinders. Bugatti Veyron 16/4, 1001.1 hp. Or how about an 18 cylinder Bugatti Chiron. Or better yet. The Cizeta Maurauder V16T....mind you this car was made 8 years ago. forget that cadillac.

That's only because their sixth gear is made for saving gas. The gear has next to no performance torque. 6th gear is just used for gas saving. OH! and I forgot to mention....Bugatti Veyron...7 speed. Yup, 7 gears.

Kinetic, OMG, that is the funniest thing ever! LOL! Oh, and guys, this won't be a heavy car -- it uses a lot of lightweight aluminum. Toshiro, what I said was... if this car represents a shift in attitude, then it is more meaningful than this car that nobody normal can afford. This car alone means nothing for GM, but if this kind of risk-taking is what is to come, then GM will be a bigger player than it already is.

Well, it isn't going to be a weight-stripped fiberglass car either JF
And I see what you mean - and I really hope we can look forward to more daring and interesting cars from GM and other American manufacturers in the future... that part after the "bigger is better?" in my post wasn't specifically directed towards you and your comments though they were statements in general...
