Drunk Driver
Well Ive had a fun couple of hours tonight.
Got home early, had an hour of Quake4 (finished it as well). Decided to make a nice meal for me and the wife. Realising I have no white wine in the house for the sauce I nipped out to the supermarket a mile down the road. Collected the wine and set off for home good in the knowledge that I'll be getting brownie points for the gastric treat I'd be serving up for the other half in an hours time. Turned left onto my road and noticed some lovely blue flashing lights coming toward me at speed. And then I noticed the set of headlights belonging to the car in front of the police car. They were rapidly changing lanes and coming toward me head on. I hit the brakes just in time for the other car to almost go past me onto the pavement but it didn't. Then I was drowing in airbag, for which I give Ford my eternal thanks. The officer who helped me out of my now mangled van and called for the ambulance was very helpfull and got my bottle of wine out of the footwell (thanks to Jacobs Creek for using very strong bottles and saving me a fiver) I spent about 90mins in the hospital getting me checked out and they've given me a clean bill of health but told me to take tomorrow off work and I will probably be very sore and bruised in the morning. Not that I have much choice as the van is my work. Of course I have to call work tomorrow to tell them that my van has been killed (woohoo now I get a new one). One of the hospital staff mentioned that the driver of the car had been brought in just before me and was in quite a mess as well as in a lot of trouble with the law. Never saw him, don't know what he looks like or anything, just know he was drunk and driving a 3 series bmw. The police will be coming to see me for a statement in the morning. I've had quite a shock tonight and have experienced more drama than I care to wish for! |

Strangely mate I dont feel angry or anything just hope the guy in the car is ok. I'll probably find out tomorrow whats happened but like I say I feel like sorry for him and his family. The wife doesn't share my feelings and she is well pissed off and has said a few nasty things tonight.

As someone who accumulated three DUI's before I was twentyone years old, I had to see a good friend killed before I stopped drinking and driving myself, that was over twenty years ago and I am grateful I didnt kill anyone. Your one of the lucky ones..

Thanks for all the kind words guys - very sore today accross my chest. Hurts to breath but went to work anyway for a meeting. Police coming to see me in about an hour.
The wife has calmed down now but I've been kind of pre-occupied all day. I think that this has given me quite a fright as I now realise this could have been a lot worse given that the car came right accross the front of my van and hit the passenger side. |

DUI is un-forgivable. I don't care if someone wants to get drunk and attempt to kill themselves, it's the innocents on the other end I worry about. You've been very lucky Logla. things could have been a lot worse. It doesn't bare thinking about. Sad fact is it takes something like Jeff experienced before people realise the danger.

I am very happy that your health is OK. As for the other guy, I hope he gets to learn this lesson... |

for damn sure you are lucky man
![]() i had a head on with a drunk a few years back. he was in my lane in the middle of the night, pouring rain, we were doing bout 60mph, only thing that saved us was that just before we hit, he stopped his car and got out to take a piss by the side of the road seriously.so lots of the impact was thankfully absorbed by his car flying the other way (into lots of other cars incedentaly). and of course he was completely un-injured. bastard. he even tried to sue us for wrecking his car! anyways, glad you got out and walked away. lots other folk don't. sure as hell gives you a wake up call though, huh! |

FWIW, most people who get that lit up and drive a car are alcoholics...
I have a buddy who is a prosecutor, and he showed up one night with a hand-held BAC tester...hey, let's see who can ring it up highest! We drank grain alcohol punch until I was seeing double. I am no lightweight, but I would NEVER even consider going near a car at that point...and I only blew a .12. This was a big eye-opener to me, because I had always thought DUII laws were too strict. Anyway, Logla I am glad you are OK, and feel free to PM me if you have any insurance/legal questions. rasta
