Anyone remember Journey?

Ok im probably showing my age here, but I was looking around my old LP collection today and found a few live Journey Bootlegs I had. Man they could play live ! When I was growing up in Ireland they (to me) were the sound of American rock bands....

Any other old farts here remember Perry, Schon and the gang? It was always a great loss for me never to have seen them live ........

Yes I do remember Journey, saw them three times, didnt like the new fellow, although he is a rather good singer. I have looked around for Neal Schons solo works and collected a rare tape of Sammy Hagar, Neal Schon and a well know base player, but it was damn good.
Ross Valory is up to something I am sure but the keyboard player is still producing.
I wouldnt mind watching Neal Schon play, I saw an old tape made during his Santana days and he was good then.

I'm 36, so when Journey was at iots highest point I was in late elementary school. How big were they over here? HUUUUGE. I still find myself rocking out to them whenever they come onto the classic rock stations.

BTW don't let Dark Lord fool you. By the time that Journey had already hit their downfall, when Perry had to leave the band for throat issues, Dark Lord wasn't even born yet.

Yeah finding their old stuff made me google them, and I found on their website they have a new singer and a new tour starting in 2006, and they made an album with a new singer in 2000. Im sorry but to me, Journey was Perry, his voice was incredible.

Here is a bit of info for you. I saw Extreme (remember extreme?) live in Ireland in the 90s, and Neal Schon was playing support for them in some band I cant remember the name of now, and he was amazing (although the band were instantly forgettable)....... Schon is a friggin great guitarist, then again he started off in Santana, so there is the hertitage for you

Yeah I know Schon was the guitarist in that band, but he toured ireland in the late 80s, early 90s in some other band backing Extreme. im not sure if anyone who is a total music buff can tell me who the band were. To be honest I can remember nothing about the gigs apart from schons wonderful guitar work in the songs. Extreme were average apart from nunos flashy guitar playing (which bored me to be honest).

Yeah I heard he had voice issues and thats why he stopped doing it, no wonder, his range was incredible and very few singers would have the technical ability to sing quite a few of those songs without key changes........ and what a great album to go out on (Trial by Fire).......

You wanna hear something marvelous Z get the latest G-3 CD live in Tokyo, some of Satches best work is on it, and of course Steve Vai and another chap from dream theater, name starts with a P...crap cant remember, but it is really good, especially the rendition of Foxy Lady and ZZ-tops LaGrange, you might like it. as for me Neal Schons work is more like jazz now but it is always worth a listen. Jeff Chaquico is good too, remember him from Jefferson Startship? very good solo work.
As for Steve Perry, well.....what can ya say...his two solo works are honorable mentions, but you can definitely hear his voice beginning to wane a bit.
I have to admit the 80's belonged to Journey in so many different ways...
but they are gone.....
Pick up Trial by Fire you dont already have it....not bad...
and besides....chicks dig it....

John Petrucci? Yeah ive most of the G3 stuff - the core of which has always been Vai and Satriani with guys like johnston and malmsteen filling the third slot, Satriani is a master and he can combine melody with virtuoso playing....

And yes I have Journeys "Trial by fire", as I said in the post right above your last one, glad to see you read my posts

there is at least one dvd out that has them performing live if you are interested z.
my entire collection got ripped of along with everything else we owned about 15 yrs ago. so the only thing from journey i have is their 'captured' cd. pretty much covers most of their good stuff. has some renditions on it that are much better than the studio vers imo.

Yeah when I was in high school (88'-90') we used to get all sorts of wrecked listening to lots of music, quite a few of my friends had Journey albums (even the real vinyl).. Great songs to party to.
