Not original, kind of a Children of Bodom rip off except with a better singer but they are pretty skilled. They try to do too much, a little too much for me its like upbeat and stuff. Sounds like a video game that is trying to make you feel happy. Very skilled musicians though, I think I'll wait untill they sort out their music in like 5 years then they could be pretty great.

Metal as a genre is dead IMO. All the real "greats" or innovators are pretty much gone or sell outs.

In any case, one of Judas Priests live shows in Asia was playing on VH1 Classic the other night, with music videos and interviews thrown in every once and a while. Good stuff

I like Children of Bodom and CHimaira and stuff like that....although CHimaira's singer annoys me.

Look into a little known band claled Skyfire too....very creative on the musical end. Much screaming and crap for vocals, but worth a listen none the less, as a few songs have decent enough vocals to be good

I've heard of them before, sounded somewhat interesting, but not enough for me to take a look at their stuff... I may do so now if I get the chance.

Do you listen something else than commercial metal? I don't want to name all the bands on my playlist but I'll have to say at least haggard, ensiferum, finntroll and elvenking but there's plenty of unic and talented bands

Thats pretty much true, its also hard to find metal that is actually true metal as all of it claims to be Metal.

Thing is the guitars, drums, bass are all the same for Emo, Hardcore, Punk, Ska, Screamo, Death metal, black metal, melodic death metal, Nu Metal, Power Metal, and all the rest. The only realy difference is the singer's talent, skill, and what they sing about. Sure all those types of metal have awsome guitarist, bassists, and drummers but they are all a dime a dozen truthfully. Because it requires more skill than talent. Singers on the other hand could have all the skill and range in the world but would still suck without talent.

Talent is pretty hard to come by but its the same it was 30 years ago.

Now when you have truelly inovative guitarist thats how you can spot talent, ones that make their own tools, tune their guitar by how they want it, play from sound, re-invent the wheel pretty much.

Singers make the band in metal, no one else.

As for this band they definately have potential as their singer is very talented. Their guitarists just try to fit 3 songs into one and it sounds kinda crappy. As they get older, learn more the will probably become a great band if they stay together.

Yes I do, haha. It's funny you bring that up. I have 3 Finntroll albums and my roommate really likes Ensiferium. Personally, I would consider those very commercial bands. It's not that they're not talented, they are, it's just been done before.

Most of my stuff is way more obscure than that; Absurd, Burzum, Bathory, Darkthrone, Nargaroth, Emperor, Judas Iscariot, Leviathan, Thunderbolt...well, the list is really long but you get the point.

If you like those bands, theres a lot of more "upbeat" style metal thats somewhat more original (IMO). Windir is a great example...another one-man project. Their last 2 releases had a full lineup, but Valfar (the creator, and writer) died in 2004 while on a hike. Einherjer (their old stuff) is another one you should check out.

downloaded "Through the Fire and Flames" God! What is this? Pop metal? Have to agree with GreenDeathF, sounds like a video game, or some japanese anime soundtrack. What's with the gay keyboard? I thought this stuff had died in the 80s, as it should have!

Yeah its not really material I would listen to myself but the guitar playing is pretty technically skilled, a bit heavy for me overall and that constant drum bass sound just does my head in....., im more into the melodic 70s type rock......

Yep, I'll agree with you there, especially about 70s rock. The peak of rock music, especially live!

That music might be popular in the netherlands, but it really isnt popular over here and I have to say ive a mate who likes all those metal bands from sweden, finland etc but I honestly (and no offense) just cant take them seriously, the names are too funny and the vocals sound forced...

But hey we all have different tastes, ill just stick with led zeppelin (showing my age)......

(not directed to the quoter).... Also what the hell is with all the metal bands lately and this "gutteral" vocal crap they are all copying -? cant anyone sing anymore? I mean if I want to hear some dude in a metal band screaming and sounding like he is suffering from a very bad vindaloo curry Ill hang around fast food joints at 2am on a sunday morning.....

Apparently not. A lot of the newer metal sound is being driven by the influence of death metal and hate bands like Rahowa and Skrewdriver.

Sometimes its like the harder you are to understand, the harder your music is.

Heh, I've got some friends who don't listen to any new music, just classic rock. Whenever they comment on my harder stuff, I point out that my Floyd collection is more complete than any of theirs. Different tastes for different people... I've got some stuff from almost every genre (no country) in my collection though, so can usually find something in common with people.

For metal type fans, you could check out Machinae Supremacy. They've got a good number of downloadable songs... sample 1 (mp3), sample 2 (mp3), sample 3 (mp3). Free cookie to anyone who recognizes the voice sample at the start of the first song.
