iTradeVideoGames.com starts giving a portion of used game profit back to developers
We’ve talked about it before, but the booming used game market is having some major repercussions on the video game industry – not all of them positive. Sales of used games have critically hurt developers and publishers by cutting them out of profits, and as a result we’re seeing game costs rise to exorbitant new levels.
However, in a stunning move, online retailer iTradeVideoGames.com announced that they will be giving 10% of their used game profit back to developers and publishers, out of respect for the industry and the hard work put into game production (Thanks, Games Are Fun). Mad! - why should they get paid twice, for something which clearly has no lasting appeal.
Should we bung the car maker a percentage, if we sell a used car? The article has it the wrong way round, the secondhand and "cheap label" software market is thriving, because new software is so overpriced. We are in a world where people expect the pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap approach, not the "oh dear, we aren't selling many so we'll have to jack the prices up". |
