Samsung Picks up Lightscribe and 8X Dual Layer Writing

Several weeks ago, Plextor announced an 18X DVD recorder with 10X DVD+R dual layer write capabilities. Samsung has just announced a similar competing drive, with slightly lower burn speeds but the addition of LightScribe write technology.

Samsung's SH-W162L is an internal PATA DVD recorder capable of reading and writing DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R Dual Layer and DVD-R Dual Layer. The drive can write to DVDR media at 16X write speeds on certified DVD+R and DVD-R media, but can also write at 8X on both dual layer speeds -- Plextor's PX-760A can only write at 6X on dual layer DVD-R media, but it can write at 10X on DVD+R dual layer media.
