K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools. Codec is short for Compressor-Decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video. It is designed as a user-friendly soluction for playing all your video files. You should be able to play all the popular movie formats and even some rare formats.

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack combines the contents of three codec packs: K-Lite Codec Pack Full, QuickTime Alternative, and Real Alternative. It also includes some extra features: BSplayer and DC-DSP filter.

Playback of .flv files is now supported
Added experimental option to use DirectShow filters (MP4 splitter, ffdshow, etc) instead of the QuickTime codecs to play QuickTime files

I've been using combined community pack for the change. Works wonders but I like to have my codecs more updated;So seems like it's time to fall back to K-Lite.

these guys/gals are so cool to do this, BUT i wish they'd have a decent release schedule. :-( They seem to randomly release their packs in conjunction w/ an update to one of the components. I feel that a monthly release will make them more favorable. Also, change the beta page w/ weekly(?) builds for your on-the-edge ppl. Just my 2 pennies.
