Will your PC keep pace with Vista?

Microsoft is building into the new operating system a tool that will rate a PC based on how well it is running and on how much it can take advantage of Vista's capabilities.

The "Windows Performance Rating," which can be seen in the latest test version of the operating system, evaluates components such as the processor, the memory, the hard drive and graphics cards to come up with an overall score.

The rating appears in a large blue circle and can be seen in multiple places in the operating system, though Microsoft has said little about what exactly the rating signifies. The main rating is on a scale of 1 to 5, but individual components are also given a "sub rating" on some other, unspecified range.

Why is it everytime they release some new feature for Vista, I get less excited about the OS. I think I just get the strange feeling it's all going to be candy and crap. More stuff that I want to uninstall, but won't be allowed to.

Yeah I don't care about vista... Win XP is fine with me. If Vista gives some kind of performance increase in games over Win XP that is the only thing that will make me want to "upgrade" to Vista.. It seems like all the copy protection BS will be enough for me not to want to "upgrade" though. It seems like Vista will be a big fat pig when it comes to recourses.

Its gonna be a hell of a lot slower than XP I'm guessing dual core will be essential.

LOL well who cares anyways I love xp and don't see why I would want to install a new os and wait for new drivers to be released for things that don't work.. I think xp is getting good and as soon as it's a lot less buggy from when it first came out they slam us with another sure to be buggy os...

Would be nice if they fixed WinXP X64 first.....hardly any drivers out for ANYTHING x64 related.......I don't know how quickly drivers will be released for Vista either if it took them this damn long to make any for Win X64! Still waiting on TV tuner drivers from ATI for X64....

not to be rude, but xp 64 was never anything but a beta. it was just a release to make amd64 usres happy & to do some trial runs for vista(+).
that is why i & most people never had an interest in it. along with most hardware shops - though i am sure there has been quite a bit of internal developement for future use.
just to be clear, ms reased has released it a while back, most hardware & software companies do not see the point in supporting it. they are the problem. though i see their point.

A beta that for me runs circles around 32 bit XP, and all my hardware has drivers for it including my Matrix Orbital LCD. Support for it will grow with x64 driver updates for Vista.

If there is a positive aspect of Vista, it's that 64bit computing will see much more support I think. I do agree with mike2h, x64 XP was just trial run for MS, to see if it was feasible. I think it was, but the brand new OS is needed to get everyone on the same plain and get everyone supporting it.
